September is Deaf Awareness Month! 💙💛🤟

This month, we celebrate Deaf voices, Deaf culture, sign language, and the vibrant Deaf community. It’s also an opportunity to learn, connect, support, and help create a more accessible and inclusive community for everyone.

Here are a few ways you can celebrate Deaf Awareness Month:

🤟 Learn Sign Language: Start with the ASL alphabet, basic greetings, or everyday phrases. Even learning a few signs is a great way to begin.

🛍️ Support Deaf-Owned Businesses: Shop with Deaf entrepreneurs, artists, creators, and small-business owners.

🎬 Watch With Captions: Turn on closed captions or SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing), and seek out movies, documentaries, and other media featuring Deaf actors and creators.

☕ Attend Local Events: Participate in ASL coffee chats, Deaf community events, workshops, performances, and other opportunities to connect and learn.

💼 Educate Your Workplace: Share resources about Deaf culture, communication access, captioning, interpreters, and other ways to make workplaces more inclusive.

💙 Support Deaf Organizations: Consider donating to nonprofits that provide resources, advocacy, communication access, and services for Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. You can support the Deaf-Hearing Communication Centre (DHCC) through its DHCC donation page.

Celebrate Deaf Voices. Embrace Deaf Culture. 💙💛
