For 75 years, CADES has grown through the dedication of families, staff, volunteers, supporters, and community partners who believe that everyone deserves opportunities to learn, belong, and thrive.

On October 1, we'll gather on our inclusive playground in Swarthmore to celebrate that legacy and the future we're building together. Join us for an evening of cocktails, conversation, and connection as we kick off our 75th Anniversary celebrations.

We sincerely hope you'll join us. You can purchase your tickets here: https://onecau.se/_k9xr61.

Happy first week of school! And in honor of that, we are proud to present our latest CADES Video Spotlight! This week, our spotlight is on George Crothers Memorial School Special Education Teacher Mary Kate Sheplock! Mary Kate has fit seemlessly into our school community, working with our middle school students as they continue to develop their independence skills. As you see from her spotlight, that includes developing a number of creative opportunities for her students, both in the class (making their own walking tacos) and in the community (ordering their own healthy foods at a local juice bar). She is beloved by her students and her fellow staff members, and is someone who, like all of our GCMS staff, exemplifies dedication, creativity, and collaboration, all in the spirit of true inclusion. Mary Kate, thank you for all that you do!

We were not kidding about October being busy- it's also the 20th Anniversary of our Courageous Pacers fundraiser in honor of National Physical Therapy Month! This fun event, initiated to encourage movement, strengthening, and endurance raises funds for the many initiatives taken on by our physical therapy team. To sponsor our event and contribute to the amazing things our PTs do here at CADES, please check out this link: https://onecau.se/_mssy61.

From our days as United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware County, when a small group of families came together to learn more about how they could support people living with Cerebral Palsy in 1951, to spreading to multiple counties and multiple school districts, impacting the lives of thousands of children and adults living with disabilities, we are grateful, we are driven, and we are turning 75 (https://onecau.se/_my4hb1)!

One of our two events that will bring us together to celebrate 75 years of CADES is on Saturday, October 3rd- a fun-filled family day on our Inclusive Playground! Free of charge, enjoy music, activities, crafts, a petting zoo, and all our playground has to offer, while learning something about the work CADES has done these last 75 years!

And a $10 donation per person gets you a light dinner and ice cream! As the sun goes down, stick around after the celebration for a movie under the stars- Zootopia 2! It promises to be an amazing day, and we hope that you can join us! Let us know you're coming, check out sponsorship opportunities, and reserve your meal (optional), visit this site: https://onecau.se/_my4hb1.

THEY'RE BACK! We were so excited (and in some cases very coordinated!) to see our new and returning George Crothers Memorial School students and welcome them to the 2026-2027 school year! You can see even from minute 1 of our new school year that we can't wait to get started!

Room 115 and 116 have found this incredible symbiotic (science term!) science connection this past school year, and it continued during ESY! Students learned all about the measurements and ingredients of ice cream, and their toppings, and made 6 different flavors that they presented to staff during the last week of ESY! With the support of adapted switches, students were able to serenade staff with the sweet sounds of Mr. Softee, remind them to grab some toppings, and thank them for coming!

Our staff in Room 1 wanted to give a shout out to Pancoast and Clifford, Inc. not only for building such beautiful classrooms, but for letting them have these pristine boxes so they could build these stylish houses as part of Fort Friday this ESY!

Each summer Musicopia comes through for us, and this year did not disappoint! With a selection of musical instruments for kids to play, a clearly inspired Vincent, and GCMS Teachers Allison Innes and Amanda Miceli and Supervisor of Special Education Cheryl Marmer closing things out on the dance floor, it was another fanastic assembly!
