š³ A little attention can go a long way in protecting our trees!
A couple of years ago, we planted these three oak saplings, and Connie has been keeping an eye on them every time she drives by. Recently, she noticed something wasnāt right!
One oak had been completely stripped of its leaves, the next had a few bagworms, and on the last tree, we found just one.
š Why are bagworms a problem?
Bagworms are destructive pests that feed on the leaves and needles of trees and shrubs. As they feed, they can strip a tree of its foliage, reducing its ability to make food through photosynthesis. Repeated infestations can weaken trees, slow their growth, and even kill young trees if the damage is severe enough. Oak saplings are especially vulnerable because they have fewer reserves to recover from heavy leaf loss.
The good news? Catching them early makes a difference! Regularly checking your trees and removing bagworms before they spread can help protect your investment and give young trees a better chance to thrive. š±
