- Making rain barrels for Suffield residents -

Three Sustainable Suffield Repair Cafe fixers accompanied co-chair Tony Peterson in building rain barrels this morning at Sunrise Park.

Residents who preregistered for the barrels are picking them up on Saturday morning from 9 am to noon at the park.

Special thanks to Repair Cafe fixers, Vacek Miglus, David Ryan and Gerry LaPlante for their help.

This morning, Sustainable Suffield arranged a tour of the USA Waste & Recycling facility in Berlin, CT.

A dozen Suffield residents watched the sorting, baling and collection of plastics, metals, glass, paper and corrugated using 18 human sorters and over a dozen optical sorters.

Daily, the 82,000-square-foot plant processes 800 to 1,000 tons of recyclables from Suffield and 169 other towns in Western Massachusetts and Connecticut.

🙏Please be a good neighbor and steward of our food scrap recycling program and only dump ORGANIC materials loosely, in BPI certified bio bags, or paper bags into our food waste dumpsters located behind Town Hall or at the Ebbs corner fire stations. (No plastic bags or non-organic waste).

♻️We’ve now had two instances of contamination in the West Suffield food waste dumpster, which inhibits our ability to effectively recycle all the other organic waste that’s collected.

🤝Please share with your friends and neighbors and always check the signage on / near the dumpsters before throwing things in. Thanks so much!
