This past May the Civil War Soldiers’ Monument was planted in red and white sunpatiens and blue ageratum in celebration of our nation’s anniversary. It looked beautiful all summer and is still going strong this fall! Civic beautification is one of our primary activities…many thanks to Aggie, Lisa, Kathy, Joyce, Thia, Sandra, Erin and our junior gardener Rosalie for their hard work!

Our meeting on Tuesday featured member photos 1) Sue Mayne’s garden 2) and 3) Larry Peters’ garden 4) Kathleen Horrigan’s garden 4) Judy Edward’s Hibiscus 5) beautiful close up of David Witkins’ Stella d’oro daylily 6) Sally Peters’ Clivia. Next month will feature photos of our autumn gardens, flowers, leaves and berries!

Thanks to the leadership of Sally Peters as Director of Community Activities, we participated in another great Suffield on the Green. Many thanks to our volunteer members, including Erin and Caroline, as well as our ever faithful tent experts Connie, Roger, Aggie and Rita. We appreciate all the people who stopped by our booth yesterday and today despite the rain. Raffle prizes of beautiful flower arrangements were distributed and everyone learned more about the Suffield Garden Club!

Garden Therapy at Suffield House continues to bring the joy of flowers to the residents. Thank you Sally, Scott, Judy, Betty, Erin, Kimmy and Maddy. Now is the time to find a wide variety of blooms…all grown locally by Julie the Garden Fairy at Willow View Farm. You can pick your own well into fall!

Is your garden abuzz with pollinators? Today the bees are sharing “ Pardon my Lavender” bee balm (Monarda didyma) with a Hemaris thysbe, or Hummingbird clearwing. It’s actually a moth of the family Sphingidae that mimics hummingbirds. It’s doing a pretty good job of it!

Our most peripatetic members, Myron Marshaus and Dave Witkins, took these photos at the recent Pearls of Newport Flower Show at Rosecliff Mansion. Beautiful arrangements, table scapes and botanical arts were created by Federated Garden Clubs of Rhode Island. Unfortunately it was so busy they didn’t get any shots of themselves sipping ch*****ne in white linen suits!
