Suffield Greater Together Community Fund Seeking Grant Applications

The Suffield Greater Together Community Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has announced an open call for grant applications, starting September 1st. The deadline for all grant applications is October 15th, 2023. Please visit hfpg.org/suffieldcf to find more information and fill out an application.

In 2019, the Hartford Foundation for established a $100,000 Greater Together Community Fund for each of the 29 towns in the Greater Hartford region, which includes the town of Suffield. In January 2022, the Hartford Foundation gave an additional $50,000 to each Community Fund with half of the funding being maintained in the Funds’ endowments and the remaining half to support current grantmaking efforts.

The goal is to award grants to support programs which will improve the quality of life for the residents of Suffield. During the 2022-2023 grant cycle, the Suffield Greater Together Community Fund awarded grants totaling a collective $31,000 to nine local organizations.

The Suffield Greater Together Community Fund Advisory Committee understands that there are a variety of potential projects to improve the quality of life in Suffield. The committee encourages organizations to consider applying for a grant during this cycle. The deadline for applications has been extended to June 11th, 2023.

Suffield Greater Together Community Fund Advisory Committee is now accepting applications for committee members. In an effort to be as inclusive as possible, we want to get this information to as many Suffield residents and increase the diversity of our committee. We know there are many valuable perspectives that will benefit our work.
The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has established a Greater Together Community Fund for the Town of Suffield. Over $44,000 has been distributed to 13 non-profit organizations in support of our Suffield community during our first two grant-making cycles. The next funding round is planned for 2024. We need your help!
The purpose of the Greater Together Community Funds is to support the Suffield community in taking ownership around the needs in their town and offering the greatest benefit to town residents; to encourage broad and inclusive civic engagement; and to anchor the Hartford Foundation in Suffield.
The Suffield Advisory Committee is looking forward to welcoming new members. To be eligible, you must be:
• a resident of Suffield
• at least 14 years of age
• not a current elected official of Suffield
Previous experience in community organizations or in grant-making is not needed. Individuals who have not previously participated in community organizations are welcome and encouraged to apply.

The Suffield Greater Together Community Fund has awarded grants totaling $31,076.00 to nine different groups that support the Suffield community. The funds awarded are intended to enhance the quality of life or otherwise contribute to solving a direct need of the Suffield community.
The grant recipients, and the projects the funds will support, are:
1. ABAR Suffield, Inc. – Suffield LGBTQIA+ Pride 2023 & Suffield Commemorates Juneteenth 2023
2. Farmington Valley Trails Council – Support for Amenities Along the Trail in Suffield
3. Friends of Suffield Youth Outdoor Adventure, Inc. – Female Troop 262 Start-Up Gear
4. Nutmeg Senior Rides, Inc. – Volunteer Recruitment Project
5. Operation Fuel, Inc. – Emergency Energy Assistance for Suffield
6. Suffield Cooperative Preschool – Scholarship Fund Establishment
7. Suffield Garden Club, Inc. – Trees for Suffield Initiative
8. Suffield Volunteer Ambulance Association – Patient Advocacy Team Updates
9. The Friends of the Farm at Hilltop, Inc. – Painting the Big White Dairy Barn

Organizations that support the Suffield community are encouraged to apply for a grant in the next cycle. To be considered, an organization must be registered as a non-profit organization (NPO) with a 501(c)(3) designation as a public charity or must obtain a fiscal agent registered as a 501(c)(3). Details about how to apply for a grant or to become a member of the Suffield Greater Together Community Fund Advisory Committee will be announced in future press releases.
The Suffield Greater Together Community Fund was created by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving in 2019.

The Fund was initially started with $100,000 from the Hartford Foundation to support the needs of Suffield residents. SUFFIELD GREATER TOGETHER COMMUNITY FUND PRESS RELEASE 2022.

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving(HFPG) is the community foundation for Hartford and 28 surrounding communities including Suffield. The funding was made possible by the gifts of generous individuals, families and organizations. The HFPG has awarded grants exceeding $795 million dollars since its founding in 1925. The purpose of the community funds is to support residents in taking ownership of needs within the community, encouraging broad and inclusive civic engagement. “Organizations that have a goal of supporting the Suffield community are greatly encouraged to apply for a grant” The funds awarded are intended to enhance the quality of life or otherwise contribute to solving a direct need of the Suffield community.. organizations that support the Suffield community are encouraged to apply for a grant.
Requirements regarding the 2022 application process will be forthcoming shortly in the form of an informational document accompanied by an application for a grant request. To be considered an organization must be registered as a non-profit organization(NPO) with a 501(c)(3) designation as a public charity or must obtain a fiscal agent registered as a 501(c)(3)

An advisory committee has been established in each community to develop the grant process and award grants to the final recipients. A list of the current committee members for Suffield is available at www.hfpg.org/suffieldcf The initial grants were awarded in 2021 to five community groups and totaled an amount exceeding $13,000.00.
