💥Go VOTE!💥
MCAN is releasing our Vote Climate Justice toolkit for the 2026 election season!

This guide contains resources such as:
- Questions for candidates
- Voter guides & registration lookup
- Absentee voting info
- Voter graphics and yard signs
- Voter registration info
- LTE writing guides & more!

As the climate crisis continues, those that have done the least to cause climate change suffer the most from the associated heat, flood, fire, drought,
famine, disease and economic disruption. A vote for climate action is a vote for frontline communities, for social, racial and economic justice. Find out where Maine’s 2026 candidates stand on the intersectional climate issues we are facing. What is their plan? Does it empower the workers who will build a green economy? Does it address the needs of those least able to cope? Does it lead to a just and equitable transition from a fossil fueled world? Find out, hold our elected leaders and those in power accountable and vote.

You’ve heard the news: Central Maine Power is proposing 2 new rate hikes, costing the average Mainer $216 more to their utility bill. Currently, 14.2 cents of every dollar we pay to CMP goes to their profits. Maine has some of the highest utility costs in the country, yet CMP still wants to charge us more.

When CMP asked for a big rate hike last summer, we organized. We submitted comments. We testified. And the PUC listened. For the first time ever, they rejected a CMP rate hike completely...so let’s do it again! Join us in standing up against CMP’s latest, sneaky rate hike proposals.

TOMORROW Tuesday, June 9 at 4 PM in South Portland (South Portland Community Center)

MCAN had a wonderful time at 2030 Vision Climate Convergence earlier this month at Celebration Barn Theater in South Paris!

We presented two workshops alongside members in our coalition:

“BLOCK, BUILD, BE: Support for Activists & Organizers”
Explored ways for activists to could reenergize their work, through a holistic model of activism that centers our vision and intentions in a longer timeline.

“ENERGY FAIRNESS”
We discussed what energy fairness means, why electricity prices are rising fast, and how to advocate around energy justice in Maine.

Thank you to CEBE for hosting a weekend for all of us to extend our ‘Resilient Roots and Joyful Shoots!’ 🌱

Not the summer hikes we had in mind…

CMP is seeking a new rate hike one on July 1st, and another in May of next year. This means the average CMP customer will have an extra $216 added to their utility payments each year. Mainers can’t afford to pay more while receiving the same, unsatisfactory service.

Tell the PUC that Mainers say NO to CMP rate hikes by signing the petition in our bio.

Heads up! CMP is seeking two new rate hikes: one on July 1, 2026, and another in May of next year. If the PUC approves, the average CMP customer will pay $216 more each year.

Last year, we beat back a proposed CMP rate hike. We rallied. We organized into a coalition called Fight the Hike. We submitted over 800 public comments. We testified. And in the end, the PUC listened. For the first time ever, a CMP rate hike proposal was denied. We won last year, and together we can win now too.

Sign the petition today to tell the PUC we say NO to utility rate hikes ⚡️

Powerful wisdom from nonviolence leader and author, Kazu Haga. Some members of MCAN are currently reading his 2025 book ‘Fierce Vulnerability’, and are welcoming us all to reflect on these questions together:

1) “What if instead of anger, we lead with heartbreak?”

2) “What if we build a movement where nobody, even those on the ‘other’ side, ever think to question their sense of belonging?”

3) “What if instead of our goal being to ‘shut it down,’ we try to ‘open it up?’ Open up our hearts and our opportunities for healing?”

4) “What if we mobilize the power needed to stop harm, while cultivating the love necessary to heal it?”

5) “What would it take?”

These questions come from pages 21-22 in his book.

The next 5 years will define Maine’s future, and the choices made by Maine’s next leaders will impact our environment and our way of life for generations to come

MCAN helped build a roadmap to get it right on climate, conservation, community, and clean energy.
As we meet this moment, our public policies and government systems can and must reflect our shared values, our changing world, and the challenges and opportunities before us. Together, we can forge new paths that utilize our environmental resources wisely, connect the dots across our communities, and integrate the wisdom and problem-solving skills of the people in Maine.
This policy guide outlines five areas of focus and the specific actions needed to rebalance Maine’s environmental policies in favor of fairness, responsibility, sustainability, and collaboration.
