Come hear from experts on local sustainability efforts and how communities can collaborate on environmental issues.

MCAN coalition member, Portland Climate Action Team, has been supporting student climate activists from SolaRISE in their drive to add solar panels to school roofs. Come learn about the work these youth voices are initiating!

Join Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition and Maine Climate Action Now for ‘Warming Welcome: Stories of Climate Migration and Growing Solidarity in Maine’.

This webinar will share New Mainers’ stories, and provide opportunities for acts of solidarity between climate and immigrant movements in Maine.

This event is part of Welcoming Week, an annual campaign and celebration of communities striving to be more welcoming places for all. More people than ever are on the move, displaced by climate and conflict and seeking opportunity and mobility. As climate migration reshapes communities, many places are unprepared and underinvested in the work needed to create welcoming infrastructure, and they’re unsure of where to start. Welcoming Week invites communities to take the first step toward creating an environment where everyone can truly thrive. In many ways, the initiative is an opportunity for communities to cultivate the awareness and energy that’s needed to sustain year-long welcoming efforts.

This year’s Welcoming Week theme is ‘Stories We Share: The Courage to Connect’. We are excited to bring a discussion to communities and movements here in Maine! 🌍

This global initiative aims to foster connections between immigrants and non-immigrants, and cultivate a sense of belonging for all.
Welcoming Week invites neighbors to share stories and experiences, to find common ground, and a deeper connection with one another. Through this, communities can build a stronger understanding of our backgrounds and cultural differences, and to find what connects us, instead of what divides us.

Maine Climate Action Now will be collaborating with Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition for a Maine event this September. Stay tuned for more!

Join us on August 27th to say NO to Big Oil.

While making record profits, Big Oil and their allies in Congress are trying to get off the hook from paying for damages caused by their pollution by passing sweeping immunity legislation to protect their corporate interests. Let’s be clear: if you make a mess, you clean it up. Maine taxpayers have been stuck paying for climate damages with no support from the corporations that caused the problem, and that isn’t right.

We will be rallying and delivering Congressional letters in Portland and Lewiston on Thursday, August 27th to tell Senator Collins, Senator King, Rep. Golden, and Rep. Pingree that Maine will not stand for Immunity for Big Oil. Join us:

This moment is urgent.
Maine Climate Action Now understands the importance and urgency of this moment, and clearly affirms that immigrant justice is directly connected to our work of advocating for a just and livable future for all. Our coalition members share a common vision of the world we hope to build – a world where everyone, regardless of their identity, has freedom of speech, due process, protection from undue harm, and the ability to experience nature and the outdoors without fear. Right now, we are far from this vision of a just world. Maine community members are being targeted, tracked, and wrongfully murdered–and will continue to be.

Maine Climate Action Now has always held the strong understanding that Climate Justice is intersectional and is incapable without addressing racial, economic, and social injustice. We all share the responsibility to step up as organizations, individuals, neighbors and communities, to speak out against these forces as a collective.

Maine Climate Action Now and Maine Immigrant Rights’ Coalition partnered with Community Plate for a series of Story Sharing Potluck Suppers: ‘When Everyone’s at the Table’. These events focused on uplifting the stories and voices of Maine immigrants, and encourage community members to come together to engage in meaningful conversation with one another. Our most recent supper from the series was held at the Harrison Community Center in Harrison along with Presente Maine and Maine Council of Churches. Many meaningful conversations where shared among initial ‘strangers’, and everyone was deeply engaged in connecting with one another and listening to their stories.

Thank you to all who shared their stories, everyone who made new connections, and to all who helped make this series possible. Lasting change can come from the simple act of gathering around a table, and meeting someone new.

“...CMP filed a request with the Maine Public Utilities Commission in April to raise its annual revenue by $189 million, starting with a $69 million temporary increase this summer — though that temporary increase was put on hold by the commission this month. CMP said in the April filing that the increases would fund upgrades and improvements to Maine’s aging electrical grid as well as an expansion of the utility’s workforce to reduce reliance on out-of-state contractors.”
