Learning, connecting, and bringing fresh ideas back to Iredell County!

Our Executive Director, Jennifer Barraclough, is joining more than 700 nonprofit leaders at the 2026 North Carolina Center for Nonprofits Conference in Concord, thanks to a scholarship/grant supporting her participation.

This two-day conference is an opportunity to share ideas, strengthen leadership, and build connections that will help us support our staff, strengthen COA, and better serve Iredell County’s older adults.

We’re grateful for this opportunity to learn and grow!

This week, Jennifer Barraclough, Executive Director of the Iredell Council on Aging, and Brianna Smoot, Director of Community Impact & Engagement, spent two days in Greensboro at the 2026 SHIIP Coordinators’ Training Conference! 💙 Both Jennifer and Brianna serve as SHIIP Coordinators for Iredell County.

This year is especially exciting as SHIIP celebrates 40 years of serving North Carolinians! 🎉 For four decades, SHIIP has provided free, unbiased information to help Medicare beneficiaries and their families understand Medicare and make informed decisions about their health coverage.

We spent the conference learning about Medicare updates, fraud and scams, the State Health Plan, resources for North Carolina’s aging population, and ways to continue strengthening SHIIP services right here in Iredell County. We also had the opportunity to hear from North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, who joined SHIIP coordinators from across the state during the conference.

And with Medicare Open Enrollment right around the corner, the timing couldn’t be better!

Have questions about Medicare? Wondering if your current plan is still the best fit? Confused about prescription drug coverage or just not sure where to start? You don’t have to figure it out alone. SHIIP counseling is FREE, unbiased, and available right here through the Iredell Council on Aging.
