🐰 BREAKING NEWS 🐰

Local rabbit seeks forever home.

Name: Birdie
Skills: Using a litter box, looking adorable, demanding snacks, and being generally perfect.

Birdie is spayed, litter box trained, and ready to find her forever family. Her adoption fee is $75, which is honestly a bargain for this level of cuteness.

Apply to be Birdie's personal snack supplier at fixingtheboro.com/rabbit 💕

Here's to hoping this catches you on your lunch break, on your drive home, or during a few quiet minutes in your day… because this $5 Friday, we desperately need help.

Donations are lower than we've seen in years, and the reality is that rescues like ours can't survive without community support.

Today, we're begging you, from the bottom of our hearts, to help us help Pogo.

Pogo is just a puppy. A sweet, goofy hound mix baby who arrived at one of our partner veterinary clinics with a broken leg.

His owner declined treatment.
No surgery. No pain medication. Nothing.

When the clinic called us, we said we would intake him. Because no puppy deserves to sit in pain when there are people willing to help.

But the truth is, saying yes is getting harder.

Veterinary costs continue to rise. Emergencies never stop coming. And right now, we’re truly struggling to keep up.

We answer calls every day from people begging us to help animals in need. The hardest part is that we often have to say yes before we know how we’re going to pay for it.

Because when you're looking at a puppy with a broken leg, a starving dog, or a sick kitten, you don't have the luxury of waiting for a fundraiser to succeed.

You help first. You figure out the bill later.

But eventually, later comes.

And right now, later is here.

We know times are hard for many families right now, and we never want anyone to feel pressured. But we also want people to understand that every single life we’ve saved has been possible because someone cared enough to help fund it.

If you’ve ever rooted for one of our rescue animals, shared a post, fostered, adopted, volunteered, or simply believed in what we do, we’re asking you to stand with us today. 🙏🏼

If you can donate, thank you.

If you can’t, please share this post. It costs nothing, and it may help this reach the person who can.

Pogo may never know your name, but because of people like you, he’ll know what it feels like to be safe, loved, and given a second chance.

And that is something worth fighting for. 🩵

Hi hi hiiii. My name is Maxima 💕

But my rescue peeps also call me:
• Maxi Pad
• Miss Ma’am
• Tiny Tiger
• Princess Purrcifer
• Maximum Cuteness

I am an 8 month old baby kitty with the softest little face and the sweetest personality ever invented. My hobbies include making biscuits, following humans around like a tiny emotional support shadow, loving on my dog friends, and looking up at people with my giant eyes until they tell me I’m beautiful (which is often because duh).

Now for the important grown-up part:

I have something called calicivirus. It sounds scary, but for me it mostly just means I need to be the only cat in the home or live with other calici-positive kitties. I’m still happy, playful, loving, and very much deserving of a family of my own. I just need people willing to see me for more than a diagnosis.

Most of all, I’m looking for a family to love me forever. 💕 But if forever isn’t possible right now, I am also desperately looking for a foster home. A safe place to land while I wait for my person would mean the world to me.

Love,
Maxima

Sometimes you beat the odds, only to find yourself fighting again.

Meet Cierra- a beautiful, vivacious tortoiseshell colored kitten who has already fought a battle with PanLeukopenia (kitty Parvo) and won, but the effects of it are now ravaging her body and she is beginning a whole new fight.

Cierra (and her sister, Amy) came to us as many kittens do- found alone, outside, skinny and afraid. They immediately battled upper respiratory infection and won. When the girls began vomiting, and having loose stool, it was found they carried an often deadly virus- PanLeuk. Again, they fought vigilantly and won. But now, perfect Cierra, is suffering with potentially lasting effects of kitten parvo- irreversible cerebellar disease.

It started with a slight head tilt and loss of balance. She was quickly assessed with bloodwork and xrays- all normal. But yesterday, her back end started to sway, and we feared the worst. After 3 fantastic Vets got together and confirmed today, we are likely looking at a kitten that will have lifelong wobbles from fighting as hard as she has.

Sometimes life is simply unfair. A 3 month old kitten should have never had to beat the odds as many as she has, but we’re here to fight with her as long as she keeps her strong spirits. We’re starting a trial of medications to see if improvements can be made, and will tweak as necessary. As long as she is happy, not in pain, and keeps meeting us with the same tenacious will to carry on, we’re in her corner. But we need our amazing support system to cheer for her, too. And that can be done through donations, shares, and prayers!

Our donations have been critically low this season, but the need seems to continue growing. With almost 100 animals in our care at any given time, we truly cannot do what we do without the support of our community. If you can find it in your heart to help us continue to help them, we would be grateful 🩷

Transformation Thursday. 🤍

Finch came to us sick, homeless, and hanging on by a thread.

Now look at him!

THIS is why rescue matters. This is what your donations, shares, fosters, and support make possible every single day. 🫶🏼

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. As we spend time with family and friends today, we also take a moment to reflect with gratitude on the freedoms made possible by those who served. Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

This is Maize Mouse.

Maize is just a baby herself. About a year and a half old.

But somewhere along the way, she became a mama while still barely more than a puppy.

When she was found wandering the streets alone, you could immediately tell she had recently had puppies. Her mammary glands were swollen, hard, and engorged. Her body was still trying to feed babies that were no longer there. She was suffering from mastitis, a serious & extremely painful infection that can quickly become life-threatening without treatment.

Animal control searched everywhere for her babies. They looked far and wide hoping they’d find them nearby. Sadly, none were ever found.

And if Maize Mouse hadn’t been through enough, she is also heartworm positive. 😞

Heartworms are not only incredibly expensive to treat (often costing thousands of dollars from start to finish), but it also takes a huge toll on a dog’s body. The treatment process is long, painful, exhausting, and requires months of strict crate rest and recovery to safely kill the worms living in their heart and lungs.

If you’ve followed us (or any other animal welfare organization) for any amount of time, you know this story all too well..

Babies raising babies. Litters being born into unsafe situations. Medical issues left untreated. Heartworms slowly damaging hearts and lungs. Dogs suffering quietly in plain sight while the world keeps moving around them.

Spay/neuter saves lives‼️ It prevents suffering like this before it ever starts– not just unwanted litters, but painful infections, roaming, and so much unnecessary heartbreak.

We can’t change what happened to Maize before she got here. But together, we can absolutely change what happens next. 🤍

Will you consider helping us give this sweet girl the care and future she deserves?
