⭐️Kiwanis Member Spotlight⭐️
When you think of dedication, service, and Kiwanis spirit, it's hard not to think of Horace Harrell. A member of the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro for an incredible 48 years, Horace has also achieved an astounding 43 years of perfect attendance!
Even after nearly five decades of service, Horace remains actively involved on the Long Range Planning, Kiwanis Awards, Agriculture, and Beautification Committees, helping shape the future of our club and community.
Horace's Kiwanis journey has taken him all over the Fairgrounds. During his very first year as a member, he worked in the corn grist grinding mill, a role many longtime members will remember. The year he served as Club President, he spent his time walking the Fairgrounds so he could be visible and accessible to members and guests. For most of his Kiwanis career, however, you'd find him in the Front Office helping with ticket sales and money counting.
Ask Horace what keeps him involved after all these years, and his answer is simple: fellowship and service. He enjoys spending time with fellow members each week, but especially values the camaraderie that comes from preparing for and working Kiwanis events together.
Fun Fact: Horace was a four-year member of FFA, served as his chapter's Vice President, participated in public speaking competitions (which he usually won), and was a member of the National Thespian Society. In fact, he was often cast as the male lead in his high school's theatrical productions!
Professionally, Horace retired after a distinguished 30-year career teaching accounting at Georgia Southern University, where he helped prepare generations of students for successful careers.
Thank you, Horace, for 48 years of leadership, service, friendship, and unwavering commitment to making our community a better place. The Kiwanis Club of Statesboro is stronger because of members like you! 💙💛
