A few of our Kiwanis Club of Statesboro members recently had the opportunity to attend a meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Liberty County and enjoyed catching up with former Statesboro Kiwanian Lynn Bennett. 💙💛

Visits like these help strengthen the Kiwanis family by building fellowship, sharing ideas for service projects, and supporting one another as we work to make our communities better places to live. Thank you to the Liberty County Kiwanis Club for the warm welcome!

⭐️Kiwanis Member Spotlight⭐️

When you think of dedication, service, and Kiwanis spirit, it's hard not to think of Horace Harrell. A member of the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro for an incredible 48 years, Horace has also achieved an astounding 43 years of perfect attendance!

Even after nearly five decades of service, Horace remains actively involved on the Long Range Planning, Kiwanis Awards, Agriculture, and Beautification Committees, helping shape the future of our club and community.

Horace's Kiwanis journey has taken him all over the Fairgrounds. During his very first year as a member, he worked in the corn grist grinding mill, a role many longtime members will remember. The year he served as Club President, he spent his time walking the Fairgrounds so he could be visible and accessible to members and guests. For most of his Kiwanis career, however, you'd find him in the Front Office helping with ticket sales and money counting.

Ask Horace what keeps him involved after all these years, and his answer is simple: fellowship and service. He enjoys spending time with fellow members each week, but especially values the camaraderie that comes from preparing for and working Kiwanis events together.

Fun Fact: Horace was a four-year member of FFA, served as his chapter's Vice President, participated in public speaking competitions (which he usually won), and was a member of the National Thespian Society. In fact, he was often cast as the male lead in his high school's theatrical productions!

Professionally, Horace retired after a distinguished 30-year career teaching accounting at Georgia Southern University, where he helped prepare generations of students for successful careers.

Thank you, Horace, for 48 years of leadership, service, friendship, and unwavering commitment to making our community a better place. The Kiwanis Club of Statesboro is stronger because of members like you! 💙💛

At today's Kiwanis Club meeting, we had the honor of donating two Amtrykes through the Statesboro AMBUCS organization. This incredible group provides adaptive bikes customized for children and adults who are unable to ride traditional bicycles, inspiring confidence, joy, and a newfound sense of independence. Today's recipients were Riley and Mateo, and we were so proud to cheer them on as they took their first rides!

A special thank you to the Statesboro Fire Department for assembling these specialized trykes at no charge for our local AMBUCS chapter.

Moments like these are made possible because of the support our community shows throughout the year. Every entry ticket purchased at the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair, every seat filled at the Kiwanis Rodeo, and every meal enjoyed at the Pancake House helps fund programs and projects that make a real difference in the lives of local children and families. Your support allows us to partner with organizations like AMBUCS and invest in opportunities that bring hope, independence, and brighter futures to those who need it most.

⭐️Kiwanis Member Spotlight⭐️

Meet John Banter! John has been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro for nearly 15 years and currently serves on both the Scholarship Committee and the Fair Committee.

What does he enjoy most about being a Kiwanian? For John, it's being part of an organization that the community knows it can count on whenever there's a need. He finds it rewarding to work alongside fellow members who are dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of others.

John's commitment to service was especially evident as the 2025 Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair Chairperson, where he logged countless hours helping ensure a safe, successful, and fun experience for the thousands of guests who attended throughout the week. John has also served in many roles on the Board of Directors, including Club President.

During the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair, you'll often find John volunteering at the main gate, welcoming fairgoers and watching families arrive excited to make memories together.

By day, John serves as Director of Organizational Effectiveness at Georgia Southern University, where he helps lead strategic planning initiatives and leadership development programs across the institution.

And here's a fun fact you may not know: John was a torchbearer for the 1996 Olympic Games! He was nominated and selected as a Community Hero Torchbearer in his hometown of Fort Valley, carrying the Olympic torch as it made its journey across the country.

Thank you, John, for your years of service, leadership, and commitment to making our community a better place!

Did you know the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro's signature project, Project Eaglet, provides elementary students in grades one through five throughout Bulloch County with the opportunity to participate in academic enrichment programs at Georgia Southern University's outreach centers on the Statesboro Campus at NO COST to students, families, or school budgets?

This is just one of the many ways the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro invests in the future of our community. Every ticket purchased to the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair or the Statesboro Kiwanis Rodeo, and every meal enjoyed at the Pancake House, helps fund programs and initiatives that support children and families across our region. From educational opportunities and youth leadership programs to community partnerships and charitable giving, the dollars you spend at our events are reinvested right back into the community, making a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.
