Billy Childs is a 2026 Pulitzer Prize Finalist in Music for In the Arms of the Beloved, "a powerfully expressive composition that unifies chamber music, jazz and choral music in a combination that speaks to America’s diverse musical traditions, offered as a way of carrying forward the spirit of our ancestors." The solo violin piece composed by Billy Childs was performed by Anne Akiko Meyers as well as collaborators Dan Chmielinski and Christian Euman, who will join Childs again on stage at Stanford Jazz Festival this summer!

“It really showed me how to think and approach the music in a group setting, which is really important in jazz… the reason that I kept coming back was for the incredible musicianship that I was surrounded by… other high schoolers, the younger kids, and the faculty.”

SJW is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of clarinetist/saxophonist Ken Peplowski. Ken was with us last summer with his "Unheard Bird" project (pictured) and delivered countless memorable performances at Stanford over the years. His humor, warmth, and unmistakable joy for the music left a lasting impression on our students and audiences. We are grateful for the time we shared with him, and we celebrate a legacy that will continue to inspire through his extraordinary recordings.
