“Believing in people unlocks potential. Fair systems ensure that potential has a path forward.”

Yared Oliveros and Ingrid Ellerbe Bly led a Fogarty Innovation Lunch and Learn on “Untapped Talent, Unmatched Value: Strategies for Inclusive Innovation.” The session focused on key takeaways from Lily Zheng’s Fixing Fairness and Charles Koch’s Believe in People.

Yared shared her personal experience being the only person who looked like her in a corporate job, and then convincing leaders to expand recruiting efforts beyond the same set of colleges, year after year. That one adjustment led to measurable changes in inclusiveness.

Ultimately, both individual talent and an organization’s systems matter for unlocking innovation and human potential.

“When organizations commit to both,” Yared says, “they create environments where innovation expands, leadership pipelines grow, organizations become stronger and more resilient.”

Thank you to all who participated – engaging in breakouts, sharing stories, and beginning to think about making just one small but impactful change within their own organizations.

Stay tuned for more conversations and a follow-up fireside chat in about 90 days.

Sudarsan Ravindran is passionate about making medical device manufacturing “boring” — reliable, replicable, cost-effective. As a mechanical engineer who found his way into manufacturing engineering in the medtech industry, he knows that even the most amazing innovation only makes an impact if it can be produced by the thousands or millions.

Thank you, Sud for volunteering to talk to DxD students about your professional journey, and why manufacturing engineering is a critical part of the medtech lifecycle.

Are you interested in providing mentorship to DxD students? Let us know! We’re welcoming professionals who want to introduce themselves and their jobs to rising medtech talent, with the potential to match with a new mentor.

"During one of the most frightening moments of my life, advanced medical imaging changed everything."

For Belay Biratu, health technology is a literal life-saver. Because of his experience, he's pursuing a professional pivot and DxD's Pathways in Health Technology program is part of his process.

In , Belay learned from innovators at medical device companies about their product pathway from clinical need to real-world solution. Through workshops and career panels, he also "learned to network with purpose, communicate my story professionally with the right experts in the field of my interest, contribute to team settings, and prepare for internship opportunities in the field."

These are smiling faces of people from across the healthtech career span who carved 90 minutes out of their busy workday to share stories, uplift, and encourage one another.

DxD's sessions have become a favorite tradition for leaders in medtech to connect with rising talent and bond over unexpected obstacles, hard-won successes, non-linear career paths, and the deep and abiding power of mentorship.

Thank you to Howard Rosen, Nada Hanafi, and Matt Hillebrenner for sharing your journeys with us this time, and to all of the mentors and mentees who participated.
