Mark your calendar for the GCHS Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 5! 🎄 The museum will be open for visitors from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and at 2:00 PM in the Rhodes Gallery, special guest speaker Lauralee Bliss shares "Mountains, Madness, and Miracles, 4000 Miles of Appalachian Trail Stories." Refreshments will be served in the museum after the program. Admission is FREE, and you do not have to be a member to attend. Additional parking is available across the street at the Greene Pharmacy or the former Brightspeed building. Come along with "Blissful" on a grand hiking adventure!

One week from today, on Wednesday, November 11, we observe Veterans Day. It began as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I on November 11, 1918, when fighting stopped at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. In 1954, Congress renamed it Veterans Day to honor all who have served, in every era and every branch. Veterans Day is a day to thank living veterans for their service, while Memorial Day honors those who gave their lives. To every veteran in Greene County, thank you. 🇺🇸

Happy Friday, Greene County! 🎃 Halloween is tomorrow, and we hope your weekend is full of costumes, candy, and good neighbors. If you are out trick-or-treating, stay visible, watch for little ghosts and goblins crossing the road, and take your time enjoying the evening. Drivers, please slow down and keep an extra eye out for children. From all of us at Post 128, have a safe and happy Halloween weekend! 👻

Eighty-six years ago today, October 29, 1940, America held its first peacetime draft lottery. A blindfolded Secretary of War Henry Stimson drew the first number, 158, from a glass bowl, and President Franklin Roosevelt read it aloud. In the months and years that followed, millions of young Americans answered the call and served in World War II. Today we honor all who served, whether they volunteered or were called, and the families who stood behind them. 🇺🇸

You do not have to figure out a VA claim on your own. Accredited American Legion service officers help veterans and their families understand VA benefits, complete the right forms, and gather the needed documents, free of charge and whether or not you are a Legion member. If you have been putting off a claim or a question about benefits, reach out and get guidance from someone trained to walk you through it. Call 1-800-433-3318 to find a service officer near you. That kind of help is what the Legion is here for. 🇺🇸

Today, October 27, marks the traditional observance of Navy Day. Established in 1922, Navy Day was set on the birthday of Theodore Roosevelt, who served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy and championed a strong fleet. It is a day to honor every Sailor, past and present, and the Navy veterans here in Greene County. Thank you for standing watch and for your service. ⚓🇺🇸

Today, October 26, is National Day of the Deployed. We honor every service member serving far from home, and the families who hold things together while they are away. Deployment asks a lot of both, distance, uncertainty, and quiet sacrifice every day. To those deployed now, to those who have deployed before, and to their families here in Greene County, thank you. You are in our thoughts, today and every day. 🇺🇸

Forty-three years ago today, October 25, 1983, American forces landed on the island of Grenada in Operation Urgent Fury, the first major U.S. military operation since Vietnam. Soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines served alongside Caribbean allies, and the mission was complete within days. Today we remember those who did not come home, and we honor every Grenada veteran and every veteran who has served since. Thank you for your service. 🇺🇸
