A Message from Craft Alliance Executive Director Bryan Knicely:
St. Louis arts and culture provide us with outstanding public art (in a park).
My love for public art really started at Laumeier Sculpture Park decades ago. It was my first opportunity to work with world-class installation artists, some of whom became lifelong friends. Laumeier also sparked my active collecting of art and craft from artists both locally and around the world, starting with the annual Laumeier Art Fair.
While Alexander Libermanโs โThe Wayโ is the iconic sculpture that graces the grounds, I had the fortune of working with Terry Allen during the installation of โLaumeier U-ME-UMโ back in 1998. For me, the โU-ME-UMโฆLaumeierโ struck the same tone for me personally as the bumper sticker โI heart NY.โ This was Terry Allenโs love note creation for Laumeier.
Begin your love affair with public art and Laumeier. They are celebrating 50 years as a place where art and nature come together and spark curiosity, creativity, and connection. It truly is outstanding, and they have marked this milestone year with the theme โWhere Wander Turns to Wonder.โ On your next day off, or if you need a break from your hectic schedule, stop by Laumeierโฆtake a strollโฆsee where art and nature come togetherโฆwander and wonder!
Thank you, Laumeier Sculpture Park.
