Missouri will not use optional federal exemptions designed to help Missourians keep Medicaid coverage when they are hospitalized, travel for medical care or live in areas affected by disasters or high unemployment.

The Department of Social Services says people who have acute medical events or travel for care can maintain coverage using other exemptions

With the Missouri State Board of Education is NOT recommending full funding of local schools in their next budget request, leaving schools $300 million under what's needed, it reminds us of how low MO is compared to other states. In nearly every indicator, we fall behind most other states. This is only the beginning of what will be really horrible budget cuts due to tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy.

Tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy that passed by MO Legislature over the last decade have reduced state revenue to the point where there is not enough money for the basics. Schools were underfunded in the current year by $190 million, and the Missouri State Board of Education is NOT recommending full funding in the next budget. That means that next year schools could be $300 million under what's needed. This is only the beginning of what will be really horrible cuts.

The Missouri State Board of Education settled an impasse on the budget by agreeing to cut a proposed increase to schools' state aid.
