Trauma-informed care asks, β€œWhat happened to you?”
EC-TIC also asks, β€œHow is inequity shaping this experience?”

It’s about:
β€’ Safety
β€’ Choice
β€’ Voice
β€’ Trust
β€’ Cultural humility

And most importantly β€” systems change.

Earlier this year, CHCM youth storyteller Dariya Walker traveled to Washington, D.C. to share her story about why Medicaid matters. As a young person who relies on Medicaid for health care, Dariya spoke about the peace of mind that comes from knowing she can access care when she needs it and the uncertainty many families are feeling as federal policy changes continue to unfold.

As conversations about Medicaid continue in Washington, we remain committed to elevating the voices of Missourians who are directly impacted by these decisions. Health care is more than a policy issue; it's about people's ability to stay healthy, pursue their goals, and build the futures they envision for themselves.

In April, CHCM leaders Riisa Rawlins, Velva Hollimon, and Aja Owens joined public health leaders from across the country in New Orleans for the 2026 National Network of Public Health Institutes Annual Conference. πŸ“

During their session, β€œPower in Partnership: Participatory Budgeting as a Model for Health Systems Transformation,” they shared how participatory budgeting can shift decision-making from about communities to with communities. Participants also took part in a simulation exploring how community voice, lived experience, and equity-centered principles can guide real funding decisions. 🀝

Six years. Countless partnerships. Lasting impact.

Today we're celebrating six years of Riisa Rawlins at CHCMπŸŽ‰

In her time at the Commission, Riisa has helped guide our organization through periods of growth, change, and possibility, always keeping equity, community, and collective well-being at the center of the work. Her commitment to listening, building partnerships, and challenging systems to better serve Missourians has helped shape who we are today.

Thank you, Riisa, for six years of leadership, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to health equity.

Happy Anniversary πŸ’™πŸŽ‰

🌈 Happy Pride Month!

This June, we celebrate the joy, resilience, leadership, and contributions of LGBTQ+ communities across Missouri and beyond.

Rooted in a history of advocacy and a continued commitment to equity, Pride is a celebration of identity, community, and progress. At a time when many LGBTQ+ individuals face discrimination, violence, and barriers to health and well-being, Pride reminds us that visibility, belonging, and justice matter.

We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live, work, heal, and thrive in communities where they feel safe, valued, and supported. Health equity is only possible when all people can show up as their full selves and access the resources, care, and opportunities they need to flourish.

This month, we celebrate the progress that has been made, honor the work that continues, and stand alongside those building an equitable future.

Our joy is our resilience, our community is our strength, and equity requires all of us πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆβœ¨
