When pianist Jeffrey Biegel comes to town on Saturday, November 14 for America at 250, he brings with him one of the most ambitious music projects in American history.

Biegel spent years recruiting orchestras from every state to perform Rhapsody in Red, White & Blue, a new work by composer Peter Boyer written as a tribute to Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue on its 100th birthday.

More than 72 orchestras have now signed on, making it the largest consortium ever assembled for a single new piece of music. The London Symphony recorded it. And this fall, your Springfield Symphony joins the roll call helping to represent Ohio.

If you enjoyed the symphony's Springfield Arts Festival show this year, you're not going to want to miss this one!

Thank you to everyone who spent a Friday with us this summer, and to the Springfield Museum of Art for sharing that beautiful lawn.

Please join us in welcoming the Springfield Youth Ensembles' new Youth Education Programs Manager, Ashtin Johnson!

Ashtin Johnson joined the Springfield Youth Ensembles team as Youth Education Programs Manager this past July 1st. Driven by a love for the arts and community outreach, she works behind the scenes to ensure that all SYE rehearsals, concerts, tryouts, and events run smoothly.

Outside of her SYE responsibilities, Ashtin is an active orchestral violinist. She’s been a member of Springfield Symphony’s first violin section for four years, and is also a section member of the Lima Symphony in Lima, OH. Additionally, she performs regularly with the Lexington Philharmonic in Kentucky, and the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra in Oklahoma.

She is currently a DMA Candidate at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music - CCM, and expects to graduate with her Doctorate in Violin Performance this December. Ashtin holds a Master’s degree from Florida State University, and a Bachelor’s from University of Missouri - Kansas City, both in violin performance.

Having grown up playing violin in the nearest Youth Symphony program in Tulsa, OK, Ashtin knows firsthand how transformative music can be in a young person’s life, and she is absolutely thrilled to be able to support the next generation's musical journey.

In her spare time, she enjoys relaxing with a good book and warm cup of coffee or tea, as well as spending time outdoors hiking and hammocking.

We're thrilled to have you, Ashtin!
