August was a beautiful month of celebrating new life in Christ across our partner churches in Ukraine.

Throughout the month, people in several local churches took the step of baptism, publicly declaring their faith and decision to follow Jesus.

Each one represents a person, a story, and a local church walking alongside them as they grow in faith.

We’re grateful to see God at work through churches across Ukraine. 💙

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

The war has entered another brutal stretch. Russian drones and missiles are coming in relentless waves across the country, striking cities far beyond the front lines and making ordinary life increasingly difficult to separate from war.

Kyiv has been hit especially hard.

For four and a half years, people there learned to organize their lives around the nights. Charge your phone. Know where the children will sleep. Listen for the alert. Move into the hallway, the bathroom, the metro, or the shelter. Now the missiles are coming during the day, too.

There is no longer the same distinction between a dangerous night and an ordinary day. Children leave classrooms for shelters. People hear drones while driving to work. Families make calculations every day about where to go, how long to stay, and whether it is safe to make the drive at all.

Recently, the family of Yulia, who is part of the Light for Ukraine team, was driving on a highway in Ukraine in the middle of the day when they saw a drone coming toward them. They pulled over, got out of the car, and ran off the shoulder of the road to hide until the drone passed.

And these are the conditions our partners serve under every day. They are preaching on Sundays, caring for families, raising their own children, delivering aid, discipling young people, and continuing to be the Church while the war happens around them.

So we are asking the Church to pray. Not simply to remember Ukraine. To pray.

Pray for God to protect the innocent. Pray for our partners and their families. Pray for the pastors and churches who continue serving when they themselves are exhausted. Pray for the attacks to stop. Pray for this war to end.

Lord, bring peace.

Two young girls, both named Anastasia, first came to our youth group after their families were displaced from Kostyantynivka to Druzhkivka.

When evacuation from Druzhkivka later became necessary, our team was able to help their families find housing and, most importantly, remain connected with them.

What could have led to another separation instead opened the door to deeper relationships with their families and continued opportunities to serve, grow, and walk together in faith.

Today, both girls are preparing for baptism.

Even through displacement and uncertainty, God has continued to work in their lives. Thank God for His faithfulness through every transition!

For several years, the Light of Jesus Church in Vyshgorod has been inviting people who fled their homes because of the war and temporarily settled in the community to join Bible studies.

Through the love and care they’ve experienced within the church, more than 30 displaced people have become church members. This year, the church also began providing financial assistance to those particularly impacted by the war, and five have since made a covenant with the Lord through water baptism.

In nearby Dymer, the Light of Life home group has been supporting a young boy who lost his father. Through their continued care, he experienced God’s love in a deeply personal way. This year, he chose to accept God as his Father and was baptized.

Even in the midst of displacement and loss, God is using His Church to provide community, care, and hope, and transform lives through the Gospel.

Last year, Light for Ukraine team member Andriy met 9-year-old David and his family at camp. But when camp ended, their relationship didn’t.

Throughout the year, David became close friends with Andriy’s son, often visiting their home and spending time with their family. In the evenings, as Andriy read his son Bible stories about God and Jesus Christ, David would sit beside them, listen, and join them in prayer.

Recently, a church leader who remembered David from camp shared that at the time, David had confidently said, “I don’t believe in God and I never will.”

So Andriy asked him again: “David, do you believe in God?”

Without hesitation, he answered, “Of course!”

In that moment, Andriy realized that God had been quietly working in David’s heart throughout the year, through friendship, time together, God’s Word, and prayer.

David’s story reminds us that God doesn’t always work through big moments. Sometimes, transformation happens through faithfulness in the small things.

Praise God for the seeds being planted and the lives being changed through this ministry.

Even amid the ongoing challenges of war and the displacement of many people from eastern Ukraine, weekly church attendance across our Association has grown to 6,450 people.

This growth has been encouraged by the addition of the Living Spring Church in Pokotilovka, Kharkiv region, along with continued evangelistic outreach by churches throughout the region.

In the midst of uncertainty and change, God continues to work, bringing people into community and giving more people the opportunity to hear the hope of the Gospel.

Please continue to pray for our churches, pastors, and communities as they faithfully serve and share the Gospel throughout Ukraine.

Four years ago, Light for Ukraine team member Stanislav met Yaroslav while playing volleyball with a group of young people in Bila Tserkva in Zarichcha.

What began with short conversations about faith between volleyball games, shared treats, and car rides around the city grew, in time, into something much greater.

A year later, after being invited on a rafting trip, Yaroslav and his friends attended their first Christian event. While they didn’t seem interested in the message at first, Stanislav continued building a relationship with them and trusting God to work in their lives.

Over time, Yaroslav began regularly attending the Infinity Youth Hub at the new Nadiya church, became more involved in the Christian community, and started making meaningful changes in his life, including giving up e-cigarettes and alcohol.

Then came a moment Stanislav never expected: “I would be baptized!”

This summer, Yaroslav and his friend Rostyslav prayed a prayer of repentance during another rafting trip.

Today, Stanislav continues to encourage them spiritually while serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and he sees in Yaroslav the potential to become a future leader in the church.

Yaroslav’s story is a powerful reminder that we may not always see what God is doing in the moment. Sometimes, we simply have to keep showing up, keep planting seeds, and trust Him with the transformation.

Praise God for the lives being changed through this ministry and for everyone who helps make stories like Yaroslav’s possible.

Bohdan (first photo) first came to church through the Campus ministry. Through continued conversations, Bible studies, and the encouragement of his campus leader, Evgeniy, Bohdan came to faith in Christ and was recently baptized. Today, he is an active member of a small group.

Maksym (second photo) began attending church through relatives. As he spent time reading, studying, and learning more about the Gospel, his faith grew, leading to repentance and baptism.

Evgeniy’s story is one of transformation, too. He first came to church shortly before the war, where he came to understand that Jesus is more than a moral teacher, He is our Savior. Today, Evgeniy serves as a deacon and is helping others discover that same truth.

These stories are a beautiful example of how discipleship continues to multiply, from being reached to reaching others.

Praise God for lives transformed and believers now helping lead others to Christ!
