Today we remember Deputy Sheriff Theresa Sue King & Deputy Sheriff Patrick Rohrer

Deputy Sheriff Theresa King and Deputy Sheriff Patrick Rohrer were shot and killed as they transported a prisoner to the Wyandotte County Correction and Court Services Building, at 800 7th Street, at approximately 11:15 am.

They were unloading the prisoner from the transport van in the facility's exterior sally port when the man attacked them. He was able to disarm one of the deputies and shot them both. Despite being mortally wounded, one of the deputies was able to return fire and wounded the subject.

Deputy King was transported to a local hospital where she passed away shortly after midnight.

The suspect pleaded guilty to two counts of capital murder and one count of aggravated robbery to avoid the death penalty. He was sentenced to two life sentences.

Deputy King had served with the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office for 13 years. She is survived by her three children.

Deputy Rohrer had served with the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office for seven years. He is survived by his wife, daughter, son, parents, sister, and grandmother.

Today we remember Master Trooper William James Modén

Master Trooper William Modén was struck and killed by a vehicle while assisting at the scene of an earlier crash on I-70 near mile marker 324 in Deer Trail, Colorado.

He was investigating an earlier crash when a pickup truck struck him at approximately 9:40 pm. Another trooper on the scene immediately began providing medical care. Trooper Modén was flown to the University of Colorado Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Trooper Modén had served with the Colorado State Patrol for 12 years and was assigned to the Vehicular Crimes Unit. He is survived by his wife, parents, two brothers, three sister-in-laws, two aunts, one uncle, four nephews, a niece, and numerous cousins.

Trooper Modén was posthumously promoted to the rank of Master Trooper.

Today we remember Sergeant Theresa Elizabeth Simon

Sergeant Theresa Simon suffered a fatal heart attack after responding to several calls the day prior. She had answered a fight call with emergency sirens and lights. After that, she responded to an alarm call where she thoroughly searched the premises for suspects or victims.

Sergeant Simon had served with the Slidell Police Department for 20 years. She was survived by her husband, a Lieutenant with the Slidell Police Department, two sons, parents, two brothers, and a sister.

She was posthumously promoted to Sergeant.

Today we remember Police Officer Endy Nddiobong Ekpanya

Police Officer Endy Ekpanya was killed when his patrol car was struck head-on by a drunk driver at the intersection of East Broadway Street and Country Club Drive while he was responding to a non-emergency call.

He was traveling eastbound on Broadway Street when a vehicle traveling westbound crossed over the dividing line and struck Officer Epankya's patrol car head-on. Officer Ekpanya was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was charged with intoxicated manslaughter and sentenced to 32 years in prison.

Officer Ekpanya had served with the Pearland Police Department for one year. He is survived by his 2-year-old son and fiancée.
