Introducing Ava Budde-Smith
Raised on her family’s commercial cow-calf operation in the heart of the Palouse in eastern Washington, Ava’s passion for agriculture was built from the ground up. Her journey has taken her across the West—from earning her associate’s degree at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, to completing her bachelor’s degree at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Today, she calls Whitehall, Montana home, where she continues to advocate for the beef industry she loves.
Her journey with American National CattleWomen began while serving as the Washington State Beef Ambassador in high school. That experience ignited a passion for sharing the story of beef and advocating for the industry that shaped her life. Encouraged by fellow cattlewomen, Ava later applied for and was selected as an ANCW Collegiate Beef Advocate for the 2024–2025 term, giving her the opportunity to represent the beef community on a national stage.
Why does ANCW matter to Ava?
Because it changed the trajectory of her career. Through ANCW, Ava developed as a leader, strengthened her advocacy skills, and built lasting friendships with cattlewomen from across the country. She believes the organization's commitment to leadership, education, and supporting the next generation of advocates leaves a lasting impact on everyone involved.
Favorite part of ranch life?
The tradition, values, and purpose that come from working alongside multiple generations. Ava loves being part of a ranching family and believes there is no greater privilege than helping produce safe, wholesome beef. One of her favorite reminders is that "2% of the population feeds the other 98%," and knowing she plays a role in feeding the world is what continues to inspire her every day. 🤎🐮
