We have been made aware of a situation with a hound that was taken to shelter then euthanized because it tested positive for Lymes disease.

WE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS DECISION OR SITUATION.

Since the new personnel was hired at the shelter we have only received 1 request from the shelter for support and that was for dog and cat food.
Humane Society members unfortunately cannot do anything about what has taken place.

WV law requires a MINIMUM 5 day stray hold before an animal can be adopted/rescued/euthanized.

If you are unhappy about what has occurred contact the County Commission directly and demand change!

There has been a big change at the shelter. Sandy Bush, the long time manager retired at the end of June. Chuck, the former kennel assistant moved on to a better job June 15th!

We would like to take a moment to introduce the new staff hired by Roane County Commission.

The new manager is Sara Morehouse.
The new kennel assistant is Fawn Pettiti.

So if you are up there for anything give them a shout and say hello.

We know we put out a plea for donations of canned cat food.

We have no idea if anyone has donated but we wanted to make sure the animals were cared for.

Tonight we (Roane County Humane Society) donated 6-32 count cases of wet food and 2 bags of dry kitten food.

Mind you this amount of food won’t last long as animals continue to be turned over to the Roane County Animal Shelter.

Reminder: the shelter and humane society are 2 separate entities.
The shelter a county entity under the direction of the county commission.
Roane County Humane Society is a licensed 501c3 non profit organization.
Just ask the IRS.

SATURDAY MAY 9th 10AM UNTIL WE RUN OUT

Spay (for female animal only) vouchers will be available for $10

1 FEMALE ANIMAL PER HOUSEHOLD!!!

We will not do any male cats or dogs unless we have extra vouchers!

ALL DOGS MUST BE SPAYED AT RIPLEY PAWS

CATS MAY GO TO RIPLEY PAWS OR LITTLE KANAWHA IN SPENCER (formerly Dr Cains)

If you do not take the animal to the correct vet YOU will be liable for the cost of all services performed.

We will be in the parking lot of Family Health Care.

❗️DO NOT approach our table until 10 am❗️

You must have a VALID WV ID/LICENSE with you to verify address is in Roane County.
This voucher will cover the cost of a spay and rabies vaccine ONLY! Any other procedures or treatments are the responsibility of the pet owner! If you went where you weren’t supposed to last year don’t bother showing up. We have a list of names and addresses of those people and those households will not be allowed a voucher!

There are a LIMITED number of vouchers as we have a LIMITED AMOUNT OF MONEY with which to offer these services. This money comes from The USDA WVSNP. If you are rude in line you will not get a voucher. If you don’t have ID you will not get a voucher. If your animal is a male you will not get a voucher.

This is Lovey, who suffered severe injuries from a buckshot wound to the face, resulting in damage to her eye and a decline in overall health due to being underweight and testing positive for Lyme disease. Following surgery to remove the damaged eye, spaying, and treatment for Lyme disease, Lovey is now on the path to recovery and is already showing improvement. Your donation towards her medical expenses would be greatly appreciated.
