Our seniors finished off their time at Farber with Senior Seminar, organized by Mrs. Rebecca Klausner. Senior Seminar featured Mrs. Rachel Kosowsky discussing Big Ideas in Modern Orthodoxy, parent Bryan Schon discussing financial issues, Dr. Jeff Devries discussing Oregon Transplant and Ms. Naomi Gardin discussing manners. Finally, our seniors walked through the halls of the ECC, Elementary, Middle and High School for the last time as students and teachers clapped them out….cheering them on as they head toward graduation. Mazal Tov to our seniors!!

Buoyancy and density were so much fun to explore in Morah Helene’s N4 class! The students began by learning about matter and discussing how different materials behave in water. Then came the hands-on fun as the children experimented with rafts made out of straws and blocks while testing which objects would float or sink. They especially loved making plastic dinosaurs and turtles float as they explored the concepts of buoyancy and density in an exciting and interactive way.

This morning after davening we had the opportunity to say good bye and thank you to Stan, our foreign exchange student. He has spent the past few months living with the Wyma family and today, Mr. Wyma had the opportunity to express to Stan, how much this presence has meant to Farber and their family telling him that he will always have a home here in Detroit. Thank you Wyma family and best of luck Stan!!

Our kindergarteners have been working very hard on their Events Day projects with Mrs. Robert’s, centered on fairytales. As they explored classic stories, the students learned about the elements that make up a story, including characters, setting, and events.

The class explored The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rumpelstiltskin, and The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

In a fascinating and especially timely discussion, Rabbi Nemes’ 8th grade girls Halacha class has been learning about Tefilat HaDerech, the prayer recited before traveling. As families begin preparing for summer vacations, the students explored a variety of practical and relevant halachic questions, including when Tefilat HaDerech should be said, what happens if a traveler takes a break along the way, how long of a stop may require saying it again, and even how the halacha applies to overnight flights and air travel. It was wonderful to see the students so engaged in learning that connects Torah and Halacha directly to real-life situations.
