We were proud to participate in the Benchmarks’ Destination 2026 Conference in Cherokee, NC, where two Monarch Healthcare leaders showcased innovative approaches to care through poster presentations.

Alison Johnson, Director of Occupational Therapy, presented on the ways occupational therapy supports youth in behavioral health crises through sensory-based interventions, emotional regulation and skill development.

Mary Katherine Carmon, Vice President of Primary Care Services, presented on Monarch Healthcare’s Integrated Primary Care Model, showcasing efforts to improve health outcomes by integrating primary care and behavioral health services.

We are proud to take integrated, innovative approaches to strengthen whole-person care and honored to share our expertise with our peers. Thank you for having us Benchmarks North Carolina! 🩵

Strengthening access to behavioral health care, together. 💙

A heartfelt thank you to Molina Healthcare of North Carolina for generously supporting the Stephen M. Morris Behavioral Health Center with a contribution to support the facility’s Adult Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC), which provides a dedicated space for adults in mental health or substance use crisis to receive compassionate, timely care.

We are grateful for this partnership, which truly makes a difference in meeting the behavioral health needs of individuals and families across Cabarrus County and the surrounding region. 💚

Strengthening mental health crisis care in Cabarrus County. 💚

We were honored to help plan, sponsor and participate in the second annual Cabarrus County Mental Health Simulation, an event that allowed attendees to step into the shoes of local families to understand the challenges and barriers that are often faced when seeking care for a mental health or substance use crisis.

Thank you to Vaya Partners and Cabarrus County Government for inviting us to join the panel to speak about the care that is available 24/7 at the Stephen M. Morris Behavioral Health Center. This simulation reminds us of the hope the facility provides to the community as these services help reduce barriers and expand access to care for individuals and families experiencing mental health crises. 💙

In honor of National Primary Care Week, we celebrate our primary care staff who support our mission to strengthen whole-person care each day through integrating primary care and behavioral health services. 🩺

With the addition of primary care services to our Stanly County and Mecklenburg County outpatient clinics, our dedicated staff provide routine health screenings and ongoing support for everyday medical needs alongside behavioral health services, making it possible for existing patients to receive support for both physical and mental health needs in the same place.

We are grateful for our primary care staff, like Medical Assistant Jennifer Mccabe, who embody our commitment to whole-person care each day and support our mission to expand access to whole-person care. 💙

Step inside the sensory room at the SECU Youth Crisis Center. 🫧

The SECU Youth Crisis Center (YCC), located in Charlotte, is a safe space for youth in behavioral health crisis to begin healing. Many of the young people who arrive at the YCC  are struggling with overwhelming emotions, significant stress or the effects of trauma.

While sensory rooms can serve many purposes, the room at the SECU YCC was intentionally designed to support youth in behavioral crisis learn to regulate their emotions, feel safe and engage in the recovery process. The space has proven to be an important therapeutic resource for youth receiving treatment at the facility.

Thanks to funding awarded through Monarch Healthcare’s internal grant program, youth at the SECU YCC now have access to additional sensory supports designed to help them regulate their emotions, including weighted blankets and a 72-inch bubble sensory tube!

The first week of October is Mental Illness Awareness Week, a time to promote understanding, reduce stigma and encourage conversations about mental health. 🧠

Despite how common mental health conditions are, stigma and misconceptions continue to create barriers for many individuals and families to seek support, talk openly about their experiences and access the care they need.
