Rise South City officially launched our Communities United for a Green South City seed‑funded project — a two‑part series — with the first event being a Public Transportation Field Trip to San Francisco’s Chinatown, chosen directly by the team!
The workshop focused on learning and using the Bay Area’s Caltrain and San Francisco’s Muni systems. We kicked off the day by taking Caltrain to San Francisco, where adults and kids practiced tapping on and off with their preloaded Clipper cards provided by Rise South City.
From the station, we hopped on the T‑Muni bus straight to the heart of Chinatown and gathered at Portsmouth Square to explore in small groups.
Lunch was provided for all participants, followed by time to experience the vibrant culture and beauty Chinatown has to offer.
At the end of the trip, community members shared their gratitude for learning how to navigate Bay Area public transportation with confidence, a meaningful step toward a greener, more connected South City!

Rise South City lanzó oficialmente nuestro proyecto financiado por seed funds, Comunidades Unidas para un Sur San Francisco Verde, una serie de dos partes. ¡El primer evento fue una Excursión de Transporte Público al Barrio Chino de San Francisco, elegida directamente por el equipo!
El viaje se centró en aprender y utilizar los sistemas de transporte público del Área de la Bahía: Caltrain y Muni de San Francisco. Comenzamos el día tomando el Caltrain hacia San Francisco, donde adultos y niños practicaron cómo usar sus tarjetas Clipper precargadas, proporcionadas por Rise South City.
Desde la estación, tomamos el autobús T‑Muni directamente al corazón del Barrio Chino y nos reunimos en Portsmouth Square para explorar en pequeños grupos.
Se proporcionó almuerzo para todos los participantes, seguido de tiempo para disfrutar la vibrante cultura y belleza que ofrece el Barrio Chino.
Al final del viaje, los miembros de la comunidad expresaron su gratitud por haber aprendido a navegar el sistema de transporte público del Área de la Bahía con confianza — ¡un paso significativo para hacer un Sur San Francisco más verde y conectada!
