Our AmeriCorps Outreach Assistant, Chloe Christensen, spent the day volunteering at Adaptive Anglers’ Free Fishing Day, helping create a fun and welcoming experience for anglers of all abilities. 🎣
From first catches to new friendships, the day was full of smiles and fish stories. A huge thank you to the volunteers, families, community partners, and the Sparks Rotary Club for making this incredible event possible.
We’re grateful to support opportunities that connect more people to the outdoors and the joy of fishing.

Calling all guides, outfitters, fly and tackle shops, and any other outdoor recreation businesses!

Money talks and outdoor recreation is a major driver of economic activity across California and the Eastern Sierra. With the reemergence of KORE Mining’s proposal to drill at Hot Creek, NoHotCreekMine and Trout Unlimited are assembling a coalition of businesses that believe that communities benefit more from intact ecosystems at Hot Creek than they will from an open pit gold mine.

If you are a local business in Mono or Inyo Counties or your business is supported by the outdoor recreation industry (anywhere!), you can join the No Hot Creek Mine Business Coalition by clicking here: https://www.nohotcreekmine.com/business-coalition

Once you join, you’ll be provided a social media toolkit. Please spread the word and tag NoHotCreekMine and Trout Unlimited California.

Economics is one of the most powerful arguments we can make in defending one of California’s most unique fisheries against this threat, and the balance sheet of this mine doesn’t check out.

ACTION ALERT! The comment period for the FERC scoping document on the Eel River dam removal is live. Voice your support for the restoration of what could be one of the greatest salmon and steelhead fisheries on the West Coast. Let FERC know that the Two-Basin Solution that we helped negotiate with tribes, local water districts, local governments and conservation groups is the best path to water security for the region.

Key points to make in your comments:

🌱Support for the timely decommissioning of Scott and Cape Horn Dams and the transition to water sharing agreements outlined in the Two-Basin Solution.

💧Having a Southern California water district take over the dams and sell the water for huge profits should not be an option. Management of Eel River water should remain in local hands.

🤝The economics of the dam removal work. A healthy salmon and steelhead fishery is a huge economic driver. Under the Two Basin Solution, we can provide stable water supplies to people even as we restore the Eel River.

Join us in submitting comments to FERC before JULY 24. Comment here using Project No. 77-332–California Potter Valley Hydroelectric Project, Pacific Gas and Electric Company: https://ferconline.ferc.gov/QuickComment.aspx

A champion of the Lahontan cutthroat trout, Dave Sarazin spends his free time seeking out the tiny and beautiful strongholds for these native fish. Sarazin has lobbied for protection for many of the LCT’s native waters and has pushed for public lands support through the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Sarazin frequently volunteers with Trout Unlimited and is an active member of the Reno fly fishing community. Read more about this champion in our latest post!

Alongside our partners at and , we tagged over 5,000 Eagle Lake Rainbow Trout as part of ongoing monitoring and restoration efforts in the Eagle Lake watershed.

Eagle Lake Rainbow Trout are a truly unique subspecies found only in the Eagle Lake basin, making conservation and habitat restoration efforts critical to protecting this one-of-a-kind fishery for future generations.

Huge thank you to everyone involved, including our friends with (Project Healing Waters), volunteers, biologists, and field crews who helped make this effort possible.

Have you seen ’s list of Conservation Towns? This new initiative highlights rural towns that are doing an awesome job of incorporating river and stream conservation into their economic success. This year’s list includes California’s own Fort Bragg .

Why Fort Bragg? With a landscape defined by water and a community deeply tied to its natural resources, this North Coast town remains connected to the health of its rivers and fisheries. Beyond the rivers, Fort Bragg is a founding member of the Noyo Ocean Collective, a regional partnership that’s committed to investing in the Blue Economy, an economic vision that celebrates conservation and sustainable development as valuable parts of the economy.

We’re excited to celebrate this awesome success and we hope you’ll join us in raising a glass to America’s small towns that are having big impacts. This year’s top Conservation Town is Philipsburg, Montana with other honorable mentions including Gunnison, Colorado, Rockland, New York, and Florence, Wisconsin.
