Somerville Municipal Employees Union
Somerville Stands Together

Beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, July 8, more than 4,000 members of the Massachusetts Nurses Association at MGB Brigham and Women's Hospital, along with 450 healthcare workers at MGB Home Care, will be on strike.

Somerville Stands Together is asking members of the Somerville Municipal Employees Union (SMEU) to join them on the picket line at MGB Headquarters, 399 Revolution Drive near Assembly Row.

Picket Line Schedule

- Wednesday, July 8: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Thursday, July 9 – Tuesday, July 14: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Our healthcare workers are fighting for:

- Safe staffing levels and manageable caseloads that protect quality patient care.
- Competitive wages that recruit and retain experienced healthcare professionals.
- Affordable health insurance.
- Fair productivity standards and a strong contract that respects frontline caregivers.

Congratulations to our member Rachel Lake!!

Our Somerville Service Award for the month of May was awarded to Rachel Lake, DPW Public Grounds Caretaker.

Rachel was nominated by a resident who ran into her while visiting Conway Park and noticed Rachel checking up on all the trees and plants.

"They struck up a conversation and was super excited to hear how Rachel was making sure the beds were in good shape for the horticultural care folks from Essex Horticulture to work for the season. Rachel is incredibly knowledgeable about the Pollinator Action Plan and native plants and was a joy to cross paths with on such a wonderful spring day. I thanked her for doing a great job and that I'm super excited she is working for the city and caring for one of my local parks. Thanks Rachel!"

SMEU recently held its General Meeting, where members had the opportunity to hear from each candidate individually and ask questions before casting their votes.
Following this process, the following three individuals were selected to receive SMEU's endorsement:
