Somerville Firefighters Local 76

10/14/2026

Just before 10 PM last night, Somerville Firefighters responded to a fire at 129–131 Broadway in East Somerville. What began as a basement fire quickly escalated to five alarms as fire spread into concealed spaces, forcing crews to evacuate the building and transition to a defensive operation.

Our members, alongside mutual aid companies from across the region, battled the stubborn fire for more than eight hours. Firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the fire and prevent further spread to neighboring businesses.

With the fire leading to a first-floor collapse and a roof collapse, damages from the incident lead to the loss of two businesses with others affected. Our thoughts are with the business owners, employees, and everyone impacted by this devastating fire.

Two of our members suffered slight injuries via electrocution, but were immediately evaluated and treated at medical facility as a precautionary measure, and quickly released.

Local 76 thanks all mutual aid departments and crews who assisted on scene and provided station coverage throughout the City.

As always, we thank our members for always answering the call and protecting the City of Somerville.

Just before 5:00 PM yesterday evening, Somerville Firefighters responded to a five-alarm fire at 1137–1147 Broadway, a large mixed-use commercial and residential building located directly across from our Teele Square Fire Station.

Local 76 members worked tirelessly for hours as the fire continued to travel throughout the large structure. Our members battled alongside our brothers and sisters from surrounding city departments, working together to fully extinguish the fire while keeping the safety of residents and firefighters our top priority.

Under extremely difficult and exhausting conditions, our members got the best of a hard-fought battle while working to protect and conserve as much of the property as possible.

This incident is another example of the commitment, resilience, and dedication of Somerville Firefighters. Our members answer the call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, putting themselves on the line to protect the residents and businesses of the City of Somerville every day.

We are proud of the work performed by our members and grateful for the mutual aid and support provided by our neighboring departments.

Early this morning, Somerville Firefighters Local 76 members responded to a 3-alarm fire on Park Street.

Fire crews encountered heavy fire throughout the basement and, as a result of the balloon frame construction prevalent in the City of Somerville, eventually all three upper floors of the vacant building were fully involved. Due to the severity of the fire, flames broke through the roof, leading to an inevitable roof collapse, and forcing firefighters to evacuate the structure and transition to exterior operations.

Several of our Somerville Firefighters were injured throughout the incident but are expected to be okay, thus showing the resiliency of our members.

We’re proud of the hard work and dedication of our members who operated in extremely challenging and dangerous conditions to protect our City.
