In memory of Dolly Parton, the Friends of Somerset County Library are asking our community to help us fill "Dolly's Bookshelf" at Somerset County Library with books for the library to add to its collections and lend to local children and their families.

Millions of children started home libraries because of Dolly Parton’s commitment to early literacy.

For more than three decades, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has mailed books directly to young children around the world — creating more opportunities for reading, connection, and learning.

Today, we remember and honor Dolly for a lifetime of advocacy and for the generations of young readers her vision will continue to inspire. In her words, “You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children.” We couldn't agree more. 📚❤️‍🩹

Progress! On 8/22/2026, Somerset County Library is open for public browsing and use, as long as people do not enter areas marked off with yellow tape. The library may need to return to modified services a few more times, without patrons being able to browse independently, depending on contractors' presence and whether people stay out of taped off areas. Please call ahead next week to check the status of work if you plan to use the library tables or browse collections independently.
