What a weekend.

SCCi Homecoming was an incredible success, and together we raised more than $20,000 to support cave and land conservation. None of this happens without the people willing to show up early, stay late, solve problems, cook food, direct traffic, pour beer, sell raffle tickets, organize auctions, (run back to Chattanooga when tables didn’t show up), and keep everything running behind the scenes.

A huge thank you to every volunteer who gave their time and energy to make this event happen. You carried this event on your backs all weekend long.

We also want to thank the property owners for opening this special place to the caving community and allowing us to gather there. Your generosity made this entire weekend possible.

Most of all, thank you to everyone who came out, camped, laughed, played music, shared stories, and reminded us why this community matters.

Finally, thank you to Inner Mountain Outfitters and Southeast Expedition Medical for being there to help celebrate with us.

35 years later, this community still shows up for the places it loves.

In the 1800’s soldiers began mining inside many caves across the southeast. Remnants of these activities can still be found inside many caves. What were they mining for and how did they do it? The answer can be found in the full video on our Youtube channel at http://www.youtube.com/?sub_confirmation=1

Geologist Daniel Babin and Preserve Manager Tina OHailey explain the history in this clip.

Ever wondered why caves are windy at the entrance? It’s due to the difference in pressure between the air inside a cave versus out. Here, geologist Daniel Babin explains how it works. To see the full video, visit the link in our bio and head to our YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/?sub_confirmation=1

If you look closely, you can find clues to a cave’s past written on the walls. Geologist Daniel Babin explains how rimstone forms and what it tells us about water levels in a cave. To see the full video, check out our YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/?sub_confirmation=1

Bobcat spotted at Anderson Cave Preserve! These elusive wildcats are notoriously hard to spot. We can assume this bobcat was on the prowl when it passed by our wildlife cameras. Happy !

Restoration work at Limrock Blowing Cave is now complete after a week-long effort. Dr. Johannes Loubser of Stratum Unlimited travelled to Alabama to restore over 100 feet of cave walls that had been extensively vandalized with graffiti. His techniques preserve underlying rock by utilizing chemically compatible pigments to camouflage damage.

Conservation is not passive. It takes all of us to protect these habitats.

Please help us preserve this unique place for future generations by signing the register instead of the rock walls and share with others the principles of Leave No Trace.

Happpy ! Rattling Cave Preserve in Cocke County, TN hosts a winter hibernaculum of endangered grey bats. As many as 200,000 have been estimated to overwinter here. With warmer temperatures, the bats are waking up and begining the migration to their summer roost.
