In our region, caves act as hidden pipelines, transporting water from the Cumberland Plateau down into the Tennessee Valley's karst Landscapes. Because this subterranean network is invisible and unpredictable, what happens above ground has a massive impact below. When local streams sink into Earth, they don't just disappear. They carry sediment, microbial activity, and pollution directly into our underground ecosystems.

Eurokarst 2026 is underway in Neuchâtel, Switzerland.

Eurokarst is a bi-annual convention of cave and karst scientists. It offers an international forum for professional exchanges and scientific debate between practitioners and academic researchers.

The Future of Karst, a climate change action plan developed by T.O. Smith, SCCi's Director of Conservation, and S. Emily Grams, Esq., was presented today in front of an international audience of scientists as the first of its kind to address conservation best practices for karst landscapes in light of a changing climate.

We are honored to attend and have the opportunity to share with fellow scientists and global leaders in conservation.
