💚 💙 This week is National Volunteer Appreciation Week. 💚💙

In honor of our amazing volunteer team, we will be sharing testimonies from some of our members as to why they choose to volunteer at Wilson Health!

This is Pam Gilbert. Pam volunteers in the Gift Shop. I have been a volunteer at Wilson Health for ten years and have never regretted signing up to be a volunteer. It is hard to believe it has already been that long. I remember when I started and some of the volunteers would say they have been volunteering for that long or more and I would wonder if I would still be volunteering at Wilson after several years. Now I cannot imagine not being being a part of the auxiliary.
The wonderful friendships that I have made with the other volunteers are some of my greatest blessings of my life. They have enriched my life tremendously.
I can remember so many moments when I have been able to help someone in the hospital and hope I have made their life a little easier that day or made them smile even if they did not feel much like smiling. It amazes me when someone recognizes me outside of the hospital and thanks me for giving of my time.
As I knit the baby hats for the infants born at Wilson Health; I can almost see the baby that would be wearing the hat as he/she goes home. Those hours spent knitting just seem to fly by.
I am proud to tell others of all the wonderful things the auxiliary has been able to do for the hospital and the community.
The joy and uplifting of my spirit by far, outweighs the time I give to volunteering. It is my greatest desire to be able give many more hours and years of service to Wilson Health.

Being a volunteer has been one of the most rewarding things I've done (next to becoming a great grandma). Helping people locate a doctor's office or department they’re looking for, lending a listening ear or sometimes offering a friendly smile can make a big difference in a person’s day.

In honor of our amazing volunteer team, we will be sharing testimonies from some of our members as to why they choose to volunteer at Wilson Health!

Thirteen years ago, I knew I wanted to be a hospital volunteer. I was already a hospice volunteer , so I felt comfortable starting to volunteer in the hospital. It has been a rewarding journey for me as I have met and made many friends . Last year I took some months off from my volunteer schedule to care for my husband who was on hospice care. I found out how great these volunteer friends are when my husband passed away last June. I was surrounded by much love and compassion. Some of these ladies have had a husband pass away and they reached out to me because they knew the pain that I was going through, many of them offered to console me by letting me talk about my feelings. I have made a lot of friends through the work place for 50 plus years but I am forever grateful for the friends I have from Wilson Health. Thanks to all of you who volunteer for the hospital and show care and love to each other also.

Meet Mary Brulport. Mary volunteers regularly at Door 4 (Professional Bldg) on Monday mornings and Tuesday afternoons.

Volunteering at Wilson Health has been a lifesaver. After my husband passed after a short illness, I spent my time shopping and cleaning. After a few weeks I had nothing to clean and nothing else to buy.

I had always worked with the public, so staying at home wasn’t working for me. I needed to be around people and be helpful.

Volunteering gave me the opportunity to help others and be involved. I love that the Wilson Health Auxiliary is able to award thousands of dollars in scholarships each year.

I love helping people and it gives me a great sense of accomplishment when they later thank me for all that I did to assist them.

Best of all, I have made many new friends with the other volunteers and staff.
