Meet our second foster: Saffron. 💛

She has kept me very busy over the past 14 days.

Usually, Saving Grace Rescue Inc chooses which foster kittens come to us. But when I saw Saffron’s photo on the shelter’s page, something about her tugged at my heart. I reached out to ask if we could take her in.

What I didn’t know was just how sick she was.

Not only did she have a severe eye injury, but she also had an upper respiratory infection, wouldn’t eat on her own, was vomiting, and the veterinarian suspected pneumonia.

Two days ago, we almost lost her. She was having agonal breaths, completely limp, and barely responsive. Several people gently prepared me for the possibility that she might not survive, and we even had to consider whether the kindest thing would be to help her peacefully transition.

As I sat with her, I played Buddhist chants in case her journey was coming to an end. I told her that if she wanted to keep fighting, I would do everything in my power to help her—but she had to fight too.

Since then, we’ve given her subcutaneous fluids, antibiotics, breathing treatments, and countless syringe feedings.

And today… she walked out of her little carrier on her own and started exploring. It may seem like a small step, but for Saffron, it’s nothing short of a miracle.

We’re not out of the woods yet, but today brought hope. And right now, hope is everything.
