‼️👋🏻 NEW INTRODUCTIONS! After a difficult start and an over two-weeks long stay at animal control, these cream-colored ducklings & their duck companion have officially arrived at Mystery Meadows after being rescued out of Peoria. 💛🚙🌾

They’re all still learning that humans can be gentle & that opening their enclosure door doesn’t always mean stress. For now, the ducks prefer sticking close together in the grass, cautiously observing the world from a safe distance, and spending plenty of time splashing in their pool. 💛🦆

And no, you aren’t seeing double! Their adult duck companion looks almost exactly like Asteroid’s (bigger) twin.

When their quarantine is complete, they’ll eventually be joining our resident duck flock alongside Stormy and Asteroid.

At Mystery Meadows, ducks are not products or possessions- they are individuals with their own personalities, friendships, fears, & favorite sunny spots.

Welcome to sanctuary life, little ones. 🐥🐥🐤

It’s that time of year- our precious migrating birds travel far and wide during the night and often become confused by our artificial lights. Let’s keep birds safe and prevent collisions by keeping our outside lights off overnight during peak migration times. 🐦 💗

Fact: Asteroid the rescued Pekin duck has never met a stranger. Not a feathered waterfowl? She doesn’t care- everyone’s a friend! 👯‍♂️💘
The adoptable Nessa & Guinness are out here chewing logs to soothe pesky baby teeth, while Asteroid holds her down her role as official management (with a little side eye). 🐾🦆
Around here, everyone gets a proper welcome…
and the two St. Patricks’s day pups are still looking for homes of their own! 🏡🐶🐶

🐾 Update on Nessa & Guinness 🐾
They’re settling in well and we’ve been getting to know their personalities over the past few days.
They’re playful, love to wrestle, and are starting to enjoy short walks on leash but still like to stay close to their people.
🤎Nessa (girl/tan- 2.5 months old & 20 lbs.) and 🖤Guinness (male/black & white- 2.5 months old &14 lbs. ) are both very sweet and people-oriented. They love sticks, tennis balls (especially Nessa!), rope toys, and generally just being silly + cuddle bugs.
We’re now ready to begin the process of finding them the right forever homes. Local homes are a plus!
If you’re interested in being considered, please email us at: 📧 [email protected]
We’ll be reviewing emails and will reach out with an adoption application.
We appreciate your patience while we carefully navigate this process and make thoughtful placement decisions for them.

Update 03/21: email [email protected] to receive adoption application and be considered as a forever home.

We recently welcomed two pups into our care at Mystery Meadows- meet Nessa (left) & Guinness (right). ☘️☘️

We believe they're around 8-10 weeks old and are focusing on letting them settle in, getting them through their vet care visits, and learning their personalities. 🤎🖤

We'll share more soon- including next steps.

On Sunday, we rescued and transported this fluffy (but sick 🤒) guy from our property to a very special rehab about an hour away. We appreciate local rehabbers that treat animals with an ecocentric, compassionate mindset. Thank you to Oaken Acres for honoring every wild animal & giving them a chance to heal. Pre-rescue and rescue pictures to follow. 🖤

Good thing he has such a nice fur coat 'cause he's pretty thin. Here's hoping when I check in on him again he'll have eaten some of his food. Nice man from LaSalle found him outside today and just let him put him in a box to transport to Oaken Acres. Our first thought was probably distemper but he's not showing any obvious signs. He's probably very glad to be in a warm place with food and water.

Quack quack! The warmest day in a while makes for a great chance for Asteroid and Stormy to take an outdoor dip and do some preening. 😊

🖤🚨Back at the start of September, our sanctuary was alerted to a domestic Muscovy duck wandering alone through a Chicago suburb. Thanks to a compassionate neighborhood resident who had been feeding her, and a quick rescue from a friend of Mystery Meadows, this sweet girl (now named Stormy) made her way to safety.

🖤👯‍♀️After a full 30-day quarantine, Stormy joined Asteroid in her spacious new coop and run. The two became instant best friends, perfectly balancing each other’s personalities. Asteroid is our bold, talkative little adventurer, while Stormy carries a quiet confidence, often spending her days perched thoughtfully by the pond watching Astro perform her signature water aerobics. Together, they now spend their days dabbling and foraging in tandem in their predator protected space.

❄️🧣It’s important to remember that domestic Muscovy ducks cannot safely survive Midwest winters on their own-they lack the wild instincts and adaptations needed to find food, avoid predators, and stay warm through freezing temperatures. Stormy’s rescue literally saved her life.

🦆🦆These two ducky girls truly shine together and we’re so thankful they found each other… and us.
