😻We all love the adopters who come in for one kitten and happily walk out with a pair. We adore the absolute heroes who can’t bear to leave a third sibling behind and take home a trio. We’ve even been lucky enough to witness a rare, legendary quadruple adoption!

…But what about SIX?! 😅

🐈‍⬛Meet Ivy, Sumac, Hemlock, Rita, Tinker, and their self-appointed "adopted uncle," Rufio!
Rufio is an adult cat who used to be notoriously shy, avoidant, and spent most of his time hidden away in a cubby hole or chicken bed! That is, until these Kittos arrived and took it upon themselves to bring him out of his shell.

🥺Watching his glow-up from a withdrawn wallflower into the heart of this group has been beautiful.

💕Now, this multi-legged cuddle syndicate basically operates as a single unit. They groom each other continuously, pile into one impossibly small bed, and look at us with pure judgment if we even think about breaking up the party.
..Seriously, how do you divide a cuddle puddle this amazing? What have we done?! 😂

🐾While we know adopting a whole six-pack is a wild dream.. These Kittos are overflowing with love and ready for their forever homes—whether as pairs, trios, or… dare we suggest… the ultimate 6-cat package deal? 😉

A lot of wildfire smoke rolling through Shelton this afternoon still, stay safe!
If you or your family are in need of N95 masks, please stop by Kitten Rescue. We have some share!

📍 When:
Today: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (or until supplies run out)
We have some to share with our neighbors! ❤️

🐱 Smoke contains fine particulate matter that can irritate your pets' respiratory systems just like ours. Cats (especially those with feline asthma), birds, senior pets, and kittens are particularly vulnerable.

🚨 Contact a veterinarian if you notice:
Open-mouth breathing or panting (especially in cats—this is an emergency!)
Coughing, wheezing, or gagging
Watery, red, or squinting eyes
Extreme lethargy, weakness, or reluctance to eat.

Stay safe and breathing easy, Mason County!

🌾☀️August is here, the PNW sun is shining, and warm summer days mean one thing: Flea season is in full swing!

☀️🐾With the warm weather, our shelter team has been getting lots of questions about a super common summer party crasher: Tapeworms.

If you've noticed a tiny white speck near your kitten's tail and thought, "Wait, how did sesame seeds get there?"... read on! 👇

🔍 What Are Tapeworms & How Do Kittens Get Them?

Tapeworms (Dipylidium caninum) are flat parasites that live in a kitten’s belly.

🐈‍⬛But here’s the kicker: Kittens don’t catch tapeworms from dirt or other cats. They get them by swallowing FLEAS while grooming!
One flea bite leads to an itch, the kitten licks the flea, swallows it, and boom—a tapeworm finds a new home.

👀 What Are the Signs?
Tapeworms are sneaky and don't always show up on standard vet stool checks. Keep an eye out for:

"Forbidden Rice" or Sesame Seeds: Look around your kitten’s rear end or bed. Fresh segments look like tiny, wiggling grains of white rice. Dried segments look like yellow sesame seeds.
B***y Scooting: Dragging their bottom across your clean rug! 🍑

The "Pot-Belly" Look: A round, bloated belly paired with skinny ribs or spine.
Dull Fur & Low Energy: Lackluster coat from missing out on nutrients.

⚠️ Tapeworms absorb the vital nutrients from your kitten's food before your kitten can..

😿 We see things like..

Failure to Gain Weight: They eat like little monsters but stay skinny.

Flea Anemia: Heavy flea infestations can drain a tiny kitten's blood supply quickly, which can become a medical emergency.

🛠️ The 3-Step Summer Treatment Plan
To stop the cycle, you have to treat the tapeworms AND the fleas at the exact same time!

1️⃣ Deworm with OTC Praziquantel for cats: Follow the instructions in the bottle which is usually #1 now, and repeat in 2 to 3 weeks to catch any new worms that were still developing.

2️⃣ Flea Control for ALL Pets: Put every pet in your home on a vet-approved monthly flea preventive for at least 3 consecutive months to break the flea life cycle. (For kittens under 8 weeks or 2 lbs, always consult a vet! Or only use warm dawn dish soap baths and flea combing.)

3️⃣ Deep Clean the Habitat: Vacuum carpets and furniture frequently (empty the container and take right out in sealed bag), and wash all cat bedding in hot water and high heat!

📋 Quick Checklist for August:
[ ] Deworm (Day 1 & Day 14–21)
[ ] Monthly Flea Treatment (Every 30 days for 3 months)
[ ] Wash bedding on hot & vacuum rugs!

Let's keep Mason County's kittens healthy, happy, and flea-free! 💛🐾

🐾 Did you know that no two calico cats ever look the same?
Their colors are completely random, so every single one is one-of-a-kind! Right now, we have two sweet, quiet adult ladies—Bunni and Madrona—and their coats couldn't be more different.

🐰Bunni has that super clean, classic calico look! She’s mostly crisp white with really clear, distinct patches of solid black and soft orange. Add in her cute pink nose and white paws, and she looks like she stepped right out of a picture book.

🌳 Madrona's coat is much darker and busier! She has a lot more black and orange swirled together.. maybe a "tortico" to some.. with lovely subtle stripes mixed in. She has a bright white chest, cute wittle white mittens, and as you can tell from her photo, she loves to roll right over onto her back to show off!

🥰 These two beautiful ladies would each love a home with a simple routine, sunny spot and good company.

📩 Interested in meeting Bunni or Madrona? Send in an adoption application: https://www.kittenresq.net/adopt and our adoption coordinator will give you a call!
