🌟 Wishlist Wednesday! 🌟

Our wishlist is growing right along with all of the babies currently in our care!

This morning we had to make a trip to the vet to pick up fluids because this time of year, babies that become separated from their mothers often arrive dehydrated and in need of immediate care. Quick rehydration can make all the difference for these little ones.

🦝 Our raccoon babies are beginning to wean, and we are running low on:
• Dry dog food
• Applesauce
• Meat baby food

🩶 Our growing opossum babies need:
• Wet cat food
• Dry cat food
• Meat baby food
• Fresh fruits and vegetables

🦌 And our fawns are drinking formula like it’s going out of style! Every bottle helps these little ones grow strong, healthy, and ready for their future back in the wild.

As always, we are not funded. Every item donated, every dollar given, and every share of our posts helps us continue providing lifesaving care to the wildlife that comes through our doors.

If you’d like to help, we have several ways to donate! You can use our donation link or reach out to us directly if you’d like to purchase supplies. We are happy to arrange a drop-off location or coordinate a pickup.

❤️ Thank you all for the love, support, donations, shares, comments, and encouragement. We truly couldn’t do this without our amazing community.

Please keep inviting your friends and family to follow our page, and don’t forget to hit that LIKE, COMMENT, and SHARE button to help spread the word about the work we’re doing for Indiana’s wildlife!

🚨🚨A massive thank you to all the kind-hearted people who donated to the raccoon applesauce cause! 🤣 We embarked on a shopping adventure to keep our raccoon pals' bellies happy and avoid any rambunctious raccoon shenanigans 🦝. We also got a delivery from Henry's and a special treat to some fabulous items from our Amazon wishlist! You all are incredible.

💔🦌 It truly takes a village. 🦌💔

This sweet little baby was found in the middle of a highway last night. Thankfully, some incredible Good Samaritans stopped to help. They made multiple attempts to relocate the fawn and give mom a chance to return, but the baby continued ending up in a dangerous situation. With the constant fear of a vehicle striking the fawn, they knew they had to step in.

First thing this morning, they reached out to us for help.

As many of you know, this time of year is incredibly busy for wildlife rehabilitators. We have received a high volume of calls and currently have several fawns we are actively working to reunite with their mothers. Because of that, we have made the decision to send this sweet baby to Moonlight Misfits Wildlife Rehabilitation , where sub Angie Schneck Schepman will give it the care and attention it needs with guidance from Shooting Star Wildlife Rehabilitation .

Moonlight Misfits Wildlife Rehabilitation and Shooting Star Wildlife Rehab work very closely together, and Shooting Star will continue to provide guidance and support in the care of this precious little one. Wildlife rehabilitation is truly a team effort, and we are so grateful to have trusted partners who share the same mission of giving these babies the best possible chance at a wild future.

A huge thank you to the caring individuals who stopped, assessed the situation, and reached out for help instead of simply driving by. Because of your compassion, this little life has a chance.

Please keep this baby in your thoughts as it begins the next chapter of its journey. ❤️

💔🦌 Meet Our Sweet Girl, Willow 🦌💔

At just 7 pounds, 4 ounces, Willow should still be spending her days tucked safely away in the tall grass, waiting for her mama to return. She arrived to us with very wobbly little legs and a freshly dried umbilical cord, making it clear that she is only days old.

Sadly, Willow is here because of a well-intentioned act of human error.

While some kayakers were enjoying a day on the river, they came across Willow lying alone and assumed she had been abandoned. Wanting to help, they picked her up and took her along for the rest of their trip down the river.

What many people don’t realize is that this is exactly what a healthy baby fawn is supposed to do.

Mama deer leave their babies alone for hours at a time while they feed. A fawn’s best defense is to stay hidden, remain still, and wait quietly for mom to return. Just because a baby is alone does not mean it has been abandoned.

The silver lining in Willow’s story is that the owner of the kayaking company knew exactly what to do once they returned. They reached out to us immediately and took wonderful care of this sweet girl until we could get there. After work yesterday, Allen (Troy Hughbanks) and I (Scarlet) jumped in the truck and made the trip to bring Willow home.

This isn’t the life Willow asked for or deserved. She should have been growing up with her mother in the wild. But now that she’s here, she has become part of our family. She’ll be raised alongside her new friend Meadow, and we are going to do everything in our power to give her the very best chance at the future she deserves.

🌿 Please remember: If you find a baby fawn lying alone, do NOT pick it up. 🌿

Instead:
✔️ Leave the fawn exactly where it is.
✔️ Observe from a distance.
✔️ Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for guidance.
✔️ Let a professional help determine whether the baby is truly in need before intervening.

Every year, countless healthy fawns are accidentally orphaned because people mistake normal deer behavior for abandonment. By taking a few moments to call first, you could help keep a family together.

For now, Willow is safe, warm, and loved. We hope you’ll follow along as this precious little girl begins her journey with us. ❤️

Welcome to the family, Willow

🚨🥺 EMERGENCY RACCOON ALERT 🥺🚨

The baby raccoons have called an emergency meeting, and the verdict is in… they are running SUPER low on applesauce and fruit baby food! 🍎🦝🍌

Apparently, tiny raccoon tummies don’t understand budgets, supply shortages, or the fact that we’re all doing our best. They just know they want snacks… and they want them NOW. 😅

As many of you know, we are NOT funded by any organization or agency. Everything we do is made possible through donations and our own out-of-pocket expenses. Every jar of baby food, every pouch of applesauce, and every dollar donated goes directly toward helping these little masked bandits grow healthy and strong.

If you’d like to help keep the snack supply flowing, please check out the donation link for ways to contribute. You can also message any of us directly for drop-off locations or to arrange a pickup.

We truly couldn’t do this without our amazing followers, supporters, and animal-loving community. Your kindness makes a huge difference, and we appreciate every donation, share, and word of encouragement more than you know. ❤️

🌞 Meadow’s Official Weather Report: 10/10, highly approved! 🦌💚

Our sweet girl Meadow got to enjoy a little outdoor time this morning while we cleaned her enclosure, and she made it very clear that this beautiful weather is exactly what she ordered! ☀️🍃

There’s nothing better than watching these little ones enjoy the sunshine, fresh air, and all the sights and sounds of nature.

Now we want to hear from YOU! What are you doing today to enjoy this gorgeous weather? Fishing? Gardening? Hiking? Relaxing on the porch? Let us know in the comments! ⬇️

We also have a small favor to ask. As fawn season is in full swing, we go through a LOT of buggy bands. These mosquito-repellent bands help our fawns tremendously, but we seem to run out of them almost as quickly as we get them this time of year.

If you happen to see buggy bands while you’re out shopping, please send us a message or let us know where you’ve found them! We would greatly appreciate the help. ❤️

As always, thank you for supporting our mission. Every like, share, comment, and donation helps us continue giving these babies the care they deserve. 🦌🦝🐿️

Many people don’t realize that we are not funded by any government agency or large organization. The work we do for these orphaned, injured, and vulnerable wildlife babies is funded entirely by our amazing supporters, generous donors, and often straight out of our own pockets. From formula and food to medical supplies, enclosures, bedding, and transportation costs—it all adds up quickly.

Because of YOU, we can continue answering the calls, taking in animals that need help, providing around-the-clock care, and giving these babies the second chance they deserve.

Tonight absolutely shattered my heart. 💔

This sweet baby raccoon came into our care tonight, and while all that fur may hide it at first glance, this poor baby is nothing but skin, bones, and exhaustion. Severely dehydrated. Extremely emaciated. And somehow… still as sweet and trusting as can be.

We don’t know this baby’s story. We don’t know how long it has been hungry, alone, or struggling to survive. We don’t know what happened that led it to this point. But what we do know is this: from this moment forward, this baby will never have to fight alone again.

After we got this little one assessed and settled into a warm safe space, something happened that honestly broke me. In my years doing wildlife rehab, I have never seen a baby so desperate to-take in electrolytes so fast that we actually had to stop and slow him down for his own safety. Usually babies this weak are too far gone to want food or fluids. Usually it’s a struggle.

But this baby knew exactly what it needed and immediately started drinking like its life depended on it… because it did. 😢

It is impossible to explain the feeling of watching an animal that desperate to survive.

Tonight we are focusing on warmth, hydration, and giving this precious soul every possible chance. We are praying this little fighter’s body can hold on long enough for us to help it heal.

Please keep this sweet baby in your thoughts tonight. We know he is in the best care possible with sub Debra Abel. She has a magic touch when it comes to babies in this state.🦝❤️
