PLEASE SHARE! Before our FREE Pool and pizza party tomorrow night from 6:30-8:30 PM, our board president Kat will be teaching a FREE Water Aerobics class from 5:30-6:15 pm. You do NOT have to RSVP for the class and it is open to everyone! However, just remember if you're coming to the pool party you DO have to register for that by emailing us at [email protected]

This will help us determine how much pizza to order 😋 Remember that while this is open to up to 100 people, it is not just available for anyone to walk in night of... we want to have a safe, inclusive party for our LGBTQIA+ community so that includes us having names/info before you come. Today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision in the cases of West Virginia v. BPJ and Little v. Hecox. The Court found that transgender athletic bans can remain in place where those laws exist. Transgender youth participating in sports in states with protections can continue and be protected by Title IX. The court also issued its decision in Trump v. Barbara, finding that people born in the United States are citizens, regardless of immigration status. These are monumental cases for PFLAG members and supporters with school-age transgender youth, and for all people who benefit from Title IX and Fourteenth Amendment protections.

“Trans people belong, on and off the field. For PFLAG families living in the many states where transgender youth are barred from participating in sports, today’s decision in B.P.J. means those bans remain in place, continuing to deny their children the opportunity to participate in sports alongside their peers. In states where the law protects them, transgender athletes can continue to be affirmed and included for who they are.

“While we celebrate the Court’s decision to uphold the Fourteenth Amendment and affirm that every person born in the United States is a citizen, we are deeply disappointed that the Court added an asterisk to allow discrimination against transgender student athletes. We have more work to do to ensure every member of our community is treated fairly. PFLAG National and our chapters are deeply committed to continuing the fight for the rights of our families, neighbors, and LGBTQ+ loved ones.”

On this final day of Pride Month, we have a few things to say about this past Sunday's 6th annual Seymour Pride, held at the beautiful The Palace Banquet Hall. Kat Hardwick and Mars Rogers both work tirelessly to get every detail locked in leading up to and the day of Pride... and were so exhausted mentally and physically Sunday night that they didn't have the energy to post right away. We also really wanted to make sure we had time to put together some words to try to sum up how we feel about this magical day. HUGE HUGE THANKS YOUS to everyone who volunteered, worked, donated raffle items, performed, provided moral support and WHO SHOWED UP 👏🌈 with genuinely could not have made this happen without all of your support!

To be able to create and host an event that celebrates q***r joy and living authentically, loudly and proudly, especially in a small town like Seymour... wr honestly don't know if we could ever put into words how incredible it is. We had around 350 people in attendance this year (which was a little down from previous year) and it was nothing but love and positivity all day long! Smiles, hugs, dancing, singing.... connecting with old friends and making new friends.... magical! We had around 30 vendors, nonprofits, and community organizations that set up tables, 3 food trucks, Drag performers, FREE face painting, dance lessons and more. We were able to raise around $1,700 for our nonprofit, the Jackson County Pride Alliance. We got to be surrounded by the people we love the most, and got to make so many connections with people we have met through these Pride events, and got to make new connections. We hope that you will support your LGBTQIA+ friends/family everyday of the year, not just in June. We already can't wait for our 7th annual Seymour pride, see you next year, but for now... PRIDE saves lives, PRIDE changes lives. Q***r people add value to the world... WE ARE HERE, WE ARE Q***R AND WE ARE FABULOUS!!!
