It's not too early to think about sponsoring a Christmas wreath in honor of a U.S. Military Veteran. We will place wreaths on the graves of local veterans during our annual Wreaths Across America ceremony on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.

Wreaths can be sponsored here: https://wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/169072/Overview/?relatedId=0

To honor the memory of each veteran, we will read their names aloud. Please be sure to provide us with the name of 'your' veteran and a pronunciation guide so we can correctly honor them.

A portion of the proceeds from each wreath sponsored are used by the Fort Vallonia DAR to support historic preservation, education, and patriotic work, organizations, and individuals in Jackson County.

Wreaths Across America ("WAA") coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies every December to "Remember, Honor, and Teach" about the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families. We are still accepting orders for our military banner project. We can take orders up until April 30, 2024.

As of today, we have 28 openings for the Seymour installation and 12 for Crothersville!

Do you know or are you related to someone who has served in the United States military? We want to honor them!

The Fort Vallonia Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, is collecting applications for our 2024 installation.

The banners will be placed in Seymour on Tipton Street through the downtown corridor, and in Crothersville on US 31 through town.

Photos of the application are posted here, but a full size document can be sent. Please contact [email protected] with any questions or to request an application.

Today marks the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. On the evening of December 16, 1773, a group of patriots disguised as American Indians and led by the Sons of Liberty approached Boston Harbor, quietly boarded three ships from the East India Company, broke open the tea chests stored there, and emptied the tea into the harbor. The event was a significant catalyst to gain colonial support for the Revolution. Today, an annual reenactment will be held in Boston, and is the first event to kick off semiquincentennial of America!
