🥹❤️ CUE THE TEARS AND ALL THE AWWWWs! ❤️🥹

We might have just witnessed one of the sweetest moments EVER at The Random Ranch. 🫏❤️

Our amazing volunteer Eric noticed that Brookie, one of our rescued donkeys, seemed a little down today. So what did he do? He went over, sat down beside her, and just kept her company.

And then… 🥹😭

Brookie gently laid her head in his lap. ❤️

I’m not crying. YOU’RE CRYING! 😭

Sometimes the most beautiful moments happen when someone simply takes the time to sit, be still, and show a little love.

’tis the seasons changing! 🍁
What an absolutely beautiful day at The Random Ranch. The cooler fall weather made Thursday with our volunteer team even better — and apparently the animals agree. 😂 Everyone had a little extra pep in their step today, with plenty of friskiness around the ranch!

There’s just something about crisp air, changing seasons, and happy animals that makes ranch days feel extra special. We’re definitely looking forward to fall… and apparently, we may be in for a wet one this year. 🌧️🍂

For now, we’re soaking up these gorgeous days while we can!

Meet Sunday, also known as Nugget. 🐔🤍

Sunday came to The Random Ranch recently, and her story broke our hearts.

She was once part of a flock of four. About two years ago, the rest of her flock passed away, and Sunday has been alone ever since.

When she arrived here, one of the first things she wanted was to be near our other chickens. After two years by herself, she was clearly ready to have a flock again. 🤍

She came to us on a Sunday, which gave her her name. We started calling her Nugget because she can’t stand for very long, so most of the time we don’t even see her little legs — she just looks like one adorable chicken nugget tucked into her bedding.

The people who had Sunday before us had no idea how sick she was. After our vet examined her, we learned that she has fatty liver disease, and unfortunately her health is very poor. At this point, she is essentially in hospice care with us.

Our goal is simple: keep her safe, comfortable, spoiled, and loved.

She even got her very own spa day because this little girl deserves all the TLC. 🫧🐔

And one thing we learned almost immediately is that Nugget absolutely loves people. She loves attention, loves being held, and is perfectly content to sit in someone’s arms and soak up every bit of affection she can get. We don’t know exactly what her life looked like before she came here, but she certainly seems determined to make up for lost cuddle time. 🤍

Because she is so sick, she can’t safely live directly with the other hens, so we created a protected habitat where she can rest while still being close to them.

After two years alone, Sunday has a flock again.

However much time we get with her, she’ll spend it knowing she is safe, surrounded by chickens, held by people who love her, and very, very spoiled. 🤍

Five minutes. That’s all it took. 🌧️😂

We got one quick little rainstorm, and Hank—our newest Great Pyrenees rescue—and his best friend, Bodhi, somehow managed to turn themselves into two giant mud monsters!

We call them our “two-headed dog” because they are always together. These two are completely *NSYNC—literally—and stuck to each other like Velcro. Wherever Hank goes, Bodhi goes…and apparently, straight into the mud is no exception. 🤎🐾

When Laurel was asked what she wanted for her birthday, her answer was simple: animals! 🥰🐾🐓🐐🐐🐴🐑🐂🫏

These two lovely, adventure-loving ladies chose to spend Laurel’s birthday on a private tour here at The Random Ranch. They brought the most wonderful energy—the animals absolutely adored them, and so did we!

After their tour, they surprised us with an incredibly generous donation. It means so much to meet people who understand the importance of supporting animal sanctuaries and the work it takes to provide these animals with a safe, loving home for life.

The Random Ranch Animal Sanctuary has been targeted by scammers creating fraudulent merchandise posts. Sadly, scammers often target animal sanctuaries because they know we have incredible supporters who want to help rescued animals.

These scammers may tag you, tag our supporters, or use familiar names to make it appear as though The Random Ranch is personally calling you out and asking you to donate or purchase something. Being tagged does not mean the post came from us or is connected to our sanctuary.

Let us be very clear: If The Random Ranch Animal Sanctuary offers apparel or merchandise, it will only be sold through our official website.

We will never ask you to purchase merchandise through an unfamiliar account, a random link in a post or comment, or an unauthorized website.

Scammers also frequently block our official account, which means we cannot see their posts unless someone sends them to us. If you see suspicious merchandise, donation requests, or posts claiming to represent The Random Ranch Animal Sanctuary, please:

🤎 HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT! 🤎

We got it done—and tonight, two amazing seniors will be the first to use our new trailer dressing room during their photo shoot!

At The Random Ranch Photography Studio, the experience is about so much more than taking beautiful photos. Our guests get to ride in our Rangers throughout the 70-acre property, visit The Barn Studio, explore our incredible outdoor locations—and now, change outfits in our trailer dressing room right down in the sunset fields for the second half of their session!

We are beyond excited to add this to the fun, one-of-a-kind senior photo experience here at the ranch. We cannot wait to share what we create tonight! 🤎

And if you’re wondering about the name Random Ass Photography—it was inspired by the rescued donkeys, our “random asses,” at The Random Ranch. They remind us that our photography is always for a cause.

Many of the animals who find their way to The Random Ranch arrive after years of neglect, poor care, trauma, or simply because they have nowhere else to go. Many are already seniors by the time they reach us, and caring for them often becomes a long-term commitment that lasts for years.

Diesel is one of those animals.

Around the ranch, we call him Forest Gump because he doesn’t seem to walk anywhere. If there’s breakfast, treats, attention, or an adventure waiting, he’s going to get there at full speed.

More than 12 years ago, Diesel came to The Random Ranch as a purchased rescue from a horse trader who was marketing him as a child’s horse. The reality was much different.

The moment Diesel arrived, our veterinarian was called. He was dangerously anemic from a severe worm burden and had never received proper dental care. The condition of his teeth was so severe that all of his front teeth eventually had to be removed.

This past week, Diesel developed a dangerously high fever. While he has been managing Cushing’s disease for the last couple of years, this sudden illness caught us off guard. He required multiple emergency and follow-up veterinary visits, and we still have diagnostics and decisions ahead of us.

The good news is that Diesel is doing far better than anyone expected.

One possibility is that he may eventually require a full geriatric mash diet. That’s the reality of caring for aging rescue animals. Rescue doesn’t end when an animal is saved. In many ways, that’s when the real work begins.

For the last several days, our caretaker and director, Amy, has been up every couple of hours around the clock caring for him and making sure he had everything he needed.

Diesel didn’t choose the neglect that damaged his teeth, but he deserves the care, comfort, and dignity that he should have had from the beginning.

For now, we’re grateful that this old guy is still running to breakfast, still looking for attention, and still being Diesel.

💔🌈 It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of our beloved rescue goat, Tonks. 💔😭

Many of you know that Tonks came to The Random Ranch alongside Lupin and Luna. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’ll recognize where their names came from. While Lupin and Luna are still with us, our sweet little Tonks has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. 🌈💔

Tonks was an absolute joy to care for and one of those special souls who left a mark on everyone she met. As she aged, she required increasingly specialized care. After losing all of her teeth, she transitioned to a soaked diet so she could continue to enjoy her meals. As her tiny body struggled to regulate temperature, she wore double coats to keep warm through the colder months. More recently, cancer began taking its toll, requiring medication, careful monitoring, and a great deal of love and attention.

When her quality of life could no longer be maintained, we made the heartbreaking decision to humanely euthanize her and give her the grace, comfort, and dignity she deserved. 💔

She leaves behind her son, Lupin, and her dear friend Luna, along with all of us who were lucky enough to know and love her.

The truth is that as an animal sanctuary, there will be many posts like this in the years ahead. Many of the animals who call The Random Ranch home are geriatric, elderly, and living well beyond the average lifespan of their species. We are incredibly grateful for every extra day, month, and year we get with them, but we also know that many are living on borrowed time.

Today, however, we choose to remember Tonks for the joy she brought, the resilience she showed, and the love she gave so freely. Please enjoy this video of our sweet little Tonks and celebrate a life that was deeply loved from beginning to end. ❤️🐐💔

Good morning from The Random Ranch. Jellybean, Diesel, and Pandora each came running up through the valley one by one… and then Brookie brought up the rear, because every good parade needs a cute little donkey bringing up the tail end.
