Kermit needs us.😢

Kermit arrived in Colorado from Houston, Texas this past Wednesday. This sweet 2-year-old French Bulldog is heartworm positive, but otherwise seemed to be doing well when he first arrived. On Thursday, he headed off to his foster home.

Unfortunately, things changed very quickly.

Thursday evening, his foster noticed that Kermit was having trouble breathing. We rushed him to the ER, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia and immediately placed on oxygen and IV antibiotics.

He spent the night at the emergency vet, where his ER bill came to right around $2,000.

Kermit has since been transferred to our primary veterinarian, where we're keeping a close eye on him. If his breathing worsens or he declines, he'll need to return to the ER. Either way, we'll need to repeat his chest X-rays in about a week to make sure the pneumonia is improving.

And once he's through all of this, he still has heartworm treatment ahead of him.

We weren't expecting to have a $2,000 emergency vet bill for Kermit 24 hours after he arrived, but that's rescue. We say yes to these dogs, and then we figure out how to get them through whatever comes next.

Right now, we're hoping to raise $2,000 to cover Kermit's emergency care so far. Anything raised beyond that will go toward his follow-up veterinary care and heartworm treatment.

Britty is the kind of dog who can go from chasing toys and running around with her dog friends to curled up in your lap for a nap like it’s no big deal.

This sweet 1-year-old mix weighs about 43 lbs and is just an all-around wonderful companion. She loves other dogs, is great on leash and in the car, and has the perfect balance of playful and lazy.

She loves a good game of chase, catching lizards, and playing with toys, but her favorite activity might be cuddling. Give her a couch, some kisses, and a lap to rest her head on and she is a very happy girl.

Britty is eager to please, responds well to guidance, and has been a lovely house guest in foster care. She has also shown excellent manners around food and other dogs.

Basically, she's a sweet, affectionate, easygoing girl who would love to be someone's best friend.

And if you're looking for a dog who will happily fall asleep in your lap by 9:30 every night, Britty would like you to know she's available for the position.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the main stage... the tiniest funk band in town.

Meet Soultrain, Motown, Discoball, and Funkytown, a quartet of 3-month-old kittens who are bringing the full package: big personalities, endless energy, and absolutely no shortage of cuddles.

These four are sweet as can be and will start purring pretty much the second you pick them up. They love to play, they love to explore, and when the batteries finally run out, they have one very important rule: **everyone piles together for a nap. Preferably on top of you.**

They’ve also done well with both cats and dogs. They may be a little cautious at first, but curiosity wins pretty quickly, and once they decide you’re not a big deal, they are perfectly happy to coexist.

If your home could use a little more music, a little more chaos, and more kitten cuddles, this is your crew.

Gizmo is a happy, curious puppy who firmly believes everyone he meets, two-legged or four-legged, is simply a friend he hasn't met yet!

He's energetic, playful, and always ready to investigate whatever is happening around him. He'd thrive with a family that can keep up with his puppy energy and give him plenty of opportunities to play, explore, and learn.

He's already learning lots of household words and routines. Gizmo knows "leave it," "off," "outside," and "last call," and he's figuring out that sitting politely earns him treats. He takes correction very well and is happy to listen when reminded. He's also mastered the stairs and runs happily to the back door when called.

This boy is incredibly affectionate and loves to cuddle. He enjoys being around his resident dog friends and gets a little offended when they disappear to the basement without him. He's also fascinated by the cats and desperately wants them to play, although they're not quite as enthusiastic about the friendship. His favorite toys include stuffies and squeaky toys, but give him a cow hoof or bone and you've really made his day.

Curious, energetic, affectionate, and just a little bit goofy, Gizmo is the kind of puppy who will keep you laughing while he learns his way through the world. He's looking for a family ready to embrace the fun & occasional chaos of puppyhood while helping him grow into an amazing companion.

Summer is winding down, vacations are wrapping up, and routines are starting to settle back in. Which honestly makes this a pretty great time to adopt a dog or cat.

Some dogs are ready to be your adventure buddy from day one. Johan is more interested in being your quiet little shadow.

This sweet 3-year-old Dachshund mix is a gentle, sensitive guy who takes a little time to trust new people. But once Johan decides you're his person, he really settles into that relationship. He loves being close, getting attention, and knowing that his people are nearby.

Right now, Johan is taking it easy while he goes through heartworm treatment, and he has become very good at making the most of his low-key lifestyle. His favorite activity is sitting by a window and watching the world go by. Every morning after breakfast, he waits to be picked up and placed in his person's lap so he can enjoy his neighborhood view. He even has a special chair downstairs dedicated to the important work of window watching.

Johan is house trained, loves treats, and is a sweet, loyal companion once he feels safe. Loud noises and sudden movements can startle him, so he would do best in a calm home without young children and with someone who understands that trust takes time.

Johan's heartworm treatment is covered by 4 Paws 4 Life at one of our partner veterinarians. Once he's medically cleared, he'll be ready to trade his window seat for walks, adventures, and all the good things waiting for him.

For now, he's just looking for someone patient enough to let him settle in and discover that he's finally safe.
