Check out the latest edition of State of the Arts 🎨🌍

In this episode, Serafina Palandech, Executive Director of the Sebastopol Center for the Arts, discusses one of the art world's biggest events: the Venice Biennale.

This year's Biennale has been marked by both celebration and controversy. Following the unexpected passing of curator Koyo Kouoh, organizers chose to move forward and honor her legacy through the exhibition's theme. At the same time, ongoing global conflicts have sparked intense conversations around national pavilions, representation, protest, and the role of art during times of political unrest.

From demonstrations outside pavilions to debates among cultural leaders and jurors, the Biennale reminds us that art is never created in a vacuum. It reflects the world around us, challenges perspectives, and invites important conversations about who gets to be seen and heard.

And the story isn't over yet, Serafina will be attending the Biennale and reporting back on the exhibitions, artists, and ideas that leave the biggest impression!

Join us for Resist & Persist at SebArts - an exhibition exploring art as a form of resistance, remembrance, and resilience, featuring a powerful display of the AIDS Memorial Quilt.  

Opening reception on June 20 from 2-4pm, Art as Activist panel discussion with Sonoma County artists Pam Van Halsema, Alina Neubel, and Edilia Mendez, speaking on the role of creativity in social change on July 10, and "When Voices Rise: Songs and Poems of Resistance" an evening of poetry and song on July 17.
