Its time to give pats on the backs of the members who step up when asked, and boot print to those who just don't seem to give a crap.
Yesterday, Sunday June 14th (Flag Day as observed across the Country) the Squadron held its advertised Flag Retirement Ceremony at Post 189 at 11 AM (as advertised). Special Mention to Rich Butler who couldn't stay but helped me set the event up. We had 10 SAL members show up (out of a possible 230). Jack Brandenburg (with his wife Maria), John Kinlen, Peter Puzzo (with his wife Beverly), Dennis Freeman, Doug Demmon, Gregg Gloumakoff (with wife Lorraine-though they helped the Post with the BBQ Booth), Rick Feldhann, Ed Kilbane & Steve Gilman were running the Breakfast & BBQ Booth so they get credit, and Dennis Joyner (with wife Wendy who provided FREE music to the BBQ Booth in the Outpost).
In addition, the ALA 189 Ladies were Beverly, Shamrock with Ann & Judy working with their husband in the BBQ Booth.
On the Post side Jason Christopher saved Pete Puzzo keister with not having to walk so much in that surgical booth. Jim Coleman came to honor his parents, and Tommy Johnson.
Here comes the boot...
There were 150+ Flags retired yesterday (we think the largest amount at one time since we started) by those few folks in all the heat, smoke, fire and humidity...BUT...there were about 100 people in the Outpost eating BBQ, and drinking beer who couldn't get up off their rear ends to pick up 1 Flag and dedicate it to a Veteran. Shame on those folks. Personally, I am at a crossroad in my Legion career, that I am phasing away from all the extra jobs I have taken on. So if anyone wants 1 of my 8 jobs (I have no idea how many really)..speak up.
