It’s that time of the year as we prepare for the Danny Woo Community Garden's 51st Annual Pig Roast Celebration on July 17th–18th! 🐖🌱🎉
We're inviting community members to be part of this special experience, whether you're a longtime supporter or attending for the first time, this is an opportunity to connect with neighbors, learn about local history, celebrate cultural tradition, and commemorate a legacy that continues to thrive!
Prior to building the garden, InterIm CDA founder, "Uncle Bob" Santos would host an annual pig roast for friends, family, and community members in his own backyard. This gathering has grown into a beloved annual event that honors the rich history of Seattle's Chinatown-International District while continuing to create new memories for families, friends, volunteers, and visitors from all around the area and beyond!
For more than 50 years, the Pig Roast Celebration brings the community together to tend to the fire, share stories, enjoy each other's company, and participate in a tradition that has connected community members across generations. The pig roast is more than a meal; it's a symbol of gratitude, strength, and the nonstop collective efforts that has sustained the garden and our community for over five decades with plenty more to come!
We are looking for volunteers to help throughout the event, especially during the event setup, overnight roasting shifts, and cleanup!!! Your time and energy will help effectuate a tradition that means so much to so many.
