This week, we are launching our TransformED Back to School Campaign! To celebrate TAF turning 30 this year, we are asking for a gift of $30 a month that will support one TAF student for an entire year of learning, confidence building, and real world problem solving.

Our goal is $360,000, which is enough to reach 1,000 students this school year.

Mark your calendars! We’re partnering with Urban ArtWorks to celebrate the end of summer with a TAF mural unveiling and summer showcase.

Join us as we unveil a new mural by youth artists in the Mural Apprentice Program (MAP), plus artwork from Urban ArtWorks summer programs. Light refreshments will be served, and the event is free and open to the public.

Friday, August 28, 5-7pm at TAF's Bethaday Community Learning Space.

Summer Institute is a wrap! Last week, teachers from our partner schools gathered to plan their curriculum for the year alongside TAF transformation coaches.

Teachers learn from each other across schools, swapping lessons and ideas. Held this year at TAF's home office, , our staff got a front row seat to see what our teachers are building for the year ahead.

New on the TAF blog!

This summer's JumpStart program had students holding a ball python named Cole at the Bug and Reptile Museum, reading to therapy dogs, and learning how natural dyes come from plants at Oxbow Farms. At the end of the program, they showed off their experiences to families at a final Presentation of Learning.

JumpStart is TAF's summer program for incoming 6th graders, designed to help students get comfortable with their new school before the first day.
This summer, our incoming TAF@Saghalie students packed in some unforgettable moments:

- Reading with therapy dogs through Reading with Rover
- Bending reality at the Museum of Illusions
- Building trust through Chain Connections exercise
- Getting up close with creatures at the Bug and Reptile Museum

They wrapped it all up with Presentations of Learning last weekend. Way to go, new 6th graders! We will see you soon!

Every year, fellows from across Washington State gather for the Martinez Summit, three days dedicated to reflection, healing, and community. This year marks our 18th cohort.

The retreat is a cornerstone of our Martinez Fellowship program. Educators learn from guest speakers, take part in reflective exercises, and explore liberatory education practices. It's a space for the healing and growth Fellows need to deepen their practice as BIPOC educators committed to social justice. Here's a look inside this year's Summit last weekend.

Last week at JumpStart, incoming TAF@Saghalie 6th graders took part in "Chain Connection," a team-building activity built on eight minutes and one challenge: to find as many things in common as possible. Groups discovered they shared everything from favorite foods to being the eldest sibling, and a shared dislike of crocodiles made the list too.

For every similarity, students wrote it on a paper strip and linked it into a chain, with the longest chain winning. By the end, the chains stretched across the room, a pretty good reminder that we all have more in common than we think!

Big congratulations to TAF@Saghalie graduate, Amanuel, on landing a summer internship with the Microsoft Discovery Program! The four-week program gives aspiring tech students hands-on project experience, professional mentorship, and a chance to explore careers by working with Microsoft employees on real projects.

Amanuel has been part of TAF since 7th grade, building the skills and confidence that helped him stand out in a competitive application process and prepared him to walk into a room full of Microsoft engineers ready to contribute.

This fall, he's headed to University of Washington Tacoma to study Computer Science, one of five schools that accepted him. From TAF@Saghalie student to Microsoft intern to college freshman, we're so proud of Amanuel!
