It’s GiveBIG! Flower Feline Sanctuary cares for 25+ kitties, plus we boost other small rescues with grants to help even more cats! We’ve sent funds to nonprofits for T/N/R, costly FIP medication, and life saving surgeries such as eye enucleation, dental extractions and limb amputations. We’ve helped these organizations purchase more traps and foster care equipment to benefit many more cats for years to come. 😸

MissionThe Flower Feline Sanctuary Mission is to provide loving care and a life-long home for senior and special needs kitties. Flower Feline Sanctuary takes in feral cats who are not considered "adoptable" into a typical home, senior kitties who may have age related

We are very sad that our beloved Jackie left us this weekend. Jackie was well known for her gentle disposition and talkative nature. One of her favorite things was to sit and be brushed.

Jackie came to us in her teens from another rescue in 2019. She was underweight and had stopped grooming; she was desperately in need of antibiotics and a full mouth extraction. After her mouth healed up, Jackie’s vivacious personality became apparent. This sweet girl will be deeply missed. 💜

For GiveBIG this year, we would like to highlight a few of the nonprofits we’ve supported over the past year and a half with our grant program.

Homeless Animals Rescue Team (H.A.R.T.) is an organization my late mom Geri loved. H.A.R.T. helps kitties through trap/ neuter/ return in the community and by finding homes for abandoned felines. Items on their wishlist included an air conditioner and tall kennels for their foster space, which is an attached garage. By funding these purchases, we helped create a safe and comfortable environment that will benefit many kitties for years to come.
If you’re in Washington state, please GiveBIG for kitties from now until May 5th😸

Early giving is open for GiveBIG! Flower Feline Sanctuary cares for 25+ permanent sanctuary residents and also provides small rescues with micro grants. These grants enable all-volunteer organizations to pay for spay/neuter surgeries and other critical veterinary care. They can also help rescues purchase new equipment for trapping community cats or fostering adoptable kitties.

For GiveBIG this year, we’re highlighting some of the nonprofits we’ve chosen for grants so that you can see how the funds directly impact kitties in need. Rescue Kitties of Hawaii operates on Molokai, where there are literally no veterinary services. Patients must be flown to the big island for specialized care and most adoptable cats are flown to the mainland. Lucky Paws is in Hawaii as well, which is sadly not a paradise for kitties. Both organizations have been inundated with animals needing help after the devastating floods in Hawaii last month.

Christina had a dental today - only two teeth needed to come out, one of which was a molar with a huge visible cavity. The doctor also took a huge chunk of tartar off the other molars, which will help keep them healthy. I think Christina holds the record for the least amount of extractions and definitely wins the “better than we expected” award this month!

David saw a dermatologist/ ear specialist this week for his chronic condition in his right ear. Past veterinarians have treated his ear with medications but our savvy feline only doctor referred us to a board certified specialist with super high powered scopes. She was able to see a mass in David’s ear that is continuously inflamed and oozing. Fortunately she doesn’t think it’s squamous cell cancer, as that is the nastiest cancer (and what took my beloved Paddy, Bunny, Rosemary and probably Lottie).

Next week David will have blood work and a chest X-ray, just to make sure he has no masses in his lungs. Then we will get scheduled for the surgery with the specialist. A CT scan beforehand is an option but would require additional sedation. I’m leaning against it because the surgeon can’t access the ear past the bony ridge anyway, so we have to hope the mass “pops off” cleanly at the stem. Then if it does grow back it should be quite slow. David is so tired of having his ear flushed and medicated, so after this surgery he should be comfortable for quite a while.

The feline veterinarian recently did Sasha’s second dental and Sasha is so much happier. (I’m happy we have a doctor who is great with all kinds of kitties.) Also, Bramwell had his final check up with the dental specialist yesterday and all is well with him!

Sunshine all week! The kitties will definitely be enjoying their catios.
