George’s tongue has been hanging out of his mouth for several months. With a sore mouth, he stopped grooming his long, silky coat. With the help of two volunteers, I was able to get him into a dog sized trap and into the veterinary clinic. George and his siblings are only around 6 years old, so it’s surprising that he had infection into his jawbone. The doctor said several teeth were even loose. So multiple extractions and a lion cut were on the agenda today.

George has pain meds on board that will last until tomorrow. I will add meds to his meals for several days to help with pain and inflammation. Caring for feral kitties can take a little extra planning when they require medical care, but George is a valued member of our sanctuary family. 💗

Clara Bow had a dental and a nail trim today, both long overdue. As a senior kitty, nail trims are mandatory because the nails don’t shed as easily as they do for younger, more active cats. Poor Clara Bow had several ingrown nails - ouch! She’s been a sanctuary resident for six years now and hasn’t warmed to being touched. She’s also very trap savvy, so even with a dose of sedative it took three people to get her into a large crate.

Clara Bow was rescued in the Pearl district in Portland but it’s believed she was previously trapped to be spayed and released. How she made it to the Pearl district outside of a condo building with very little natural space for cover remains a mystery. Thankfully one of the condo building tenants started feeding her and reached out to Meow Village for help. I named her Clara Bow because of her likeness to the lovely silver screen star of the same name. Such a relief that our beautiful girl will be so much more comfortable now!

For our followers in the Puget Sound area, here’s a great way to help Washingtonian companion animals displaced by wildlife.

** ATTN: FOOD AND SUPPLY DRIVE ALERT! **

As many of you are aware, our state is currently being ravaged by wildfires on many fronts, leaving humans and animals displaced and challenged for a means to have their basic needs met. One such fire - the Sinlahekin Fire in Okanogan County, Washington - has burned approximately 127,000 acres of land and has impacted hundreds of residents and their pets, most notably around the areas of Tonasket and Loomis, WA. This fire currently stands as Washignton's second largest with less than 30% containment.

On SATURDAY, AUGUST 15th, MEOW Cat Rescue will be collaborating with a friend of MEOW located in that area, in collecting food and supplies to benefit the people and pets displaced by the Sinlahekin fire. The donation drive will take place in MEOW's parking lot from 11am - 4pm. We are looking to procure the following items:

- Cat food (canned and dry)
- Dog food (canned and dry)
- Cat litter and boxes
- Carriers

If you are interested in helping, please stop by the shelter on Saturday, August 15th between 11am and 4pm. Each donation will receive a tax receipt for your records as well as our endless gratitude.
