Port of Coupeville

Port of Coupeville The Port of Coupeville works as steward of two Whidbey Island historic properties: Coupeville Wharf and Greenbank Farm. We are here to serve you.

The Port's mission includes providing economic development opportunities for the Port district – and Whidbey Island community. The Port of Coupeville was established in 1966, located on Whidbey Island in the Puget Sound. It includes an area from north of the town of Coupeville to north of Freeland. Current cornerstone properties include the Historic Coupeville Wharf and Greenbank Farm. Port commis

sions establish long-term strategies for a port district, and create policies to guide the development, growth, and operation of the port. They are also responsible for a port’s annual budgets, approving tax levy rates, and hiring the professional staff members responsible for a port’s daily functions. The air temperature is hot, but the water temp is still COLD — so be cautious! Low tides mid-day. See photo in comments for Coupeville Wharf low tide today. Here’s Good Advice:

Today’s an extreme king tide!
Low tide at 11:32 AM is -4.3 feet – one of the lowest tides of the year.
If you’re on the waterfront or beach today:
Explore tidepools and shoreline areas carefully
Watch for deep, sticky mud and "quicksand"
Keep an eye on changing conditions, the tide comes in fast.

For boaters:
Plan extra time for launching and retrieving your boats
Be mindful of shallow areas and exposed obstacles

Enjoy this unique low-tide day and stay safe out there on the water and along the shore!

June is Orca Month! This year's theme is "Orcas Can't Vote, But You Can." Orca Month activities encourage citizens to take collective actions that make a difference in the lives of Southern Resident Killer Whales.

We're excited to support the Orca Behavior Institute's Orca Month project: 20 Years Endangered. Throughout the Salish Sea during June, artists are displaying unique interpretations of life-size Southern Resident Killer Whale fins. Coupeville artist Bonnie Gretz created a custom fabric banner that's on display in the Coupeville Wharf lobby this month.

The Coupeville Wharf is one of 75 locations -- the number 75 represents the current population of resident Orcas. See the interactive map of fin locations at the link.

Orcas are icons of the Pacific Northwest – and they are also vital threads in the cultural, ecological, and spiritual fabric of our region.
