This is what we mean when we say a hands-on education. These undergrads got to fly to Paris to present their research on therapy dogs and the way they can promote emotional regulation among students during high-stress periods like finals.

Presenting research at an international conference isn’t typical for undergraduates, but three WSU students recently had that opportunity after completing a research project that lasted three semesters.

This is such an incredible milestone. After so many years, it’s hard to believe it’s real!

A milestone more than a decade in the making, the Washington State University Family Medicine Residency Program at Pullman Regional Hospital celebrated the graduation of its first class of resident physicians — Dr. Jeff Ward and Dr. Mohammed Younes — this summer.

The Family Medicine Residency Center has conducted more than 7,000 patient visits since opening in 2023, including 3,200 in 2025 alone. More than 2,000 patients, many of whom did not have an established care team, now have a resident physician as a primary care provider.

“Many people made this residency program possible, but Dr. Younes and Dr. Ward helped build it,” said Program Director Dr. Stephen Hall. “I couldn’t be prouder of the physicians they’ve become and the difference they have already made in our community.”

What makes a WSU education different? Projects like this, which not only improve the lives of people far away, but also help our students get real-world experience that can help them achieve their career goals back here at home.

We are incredibly proud of the life-changing impact our engineering students are making on the global stage!

This summer, three Voiland College students - Connor Reschke, Haley Boileau, and Josephine Gordon traveled to Altamira, Bolivia, with the WSU Chapter of Engineers in Action. Their mission was to use their engineering training for the common good.

Working alongside the local community, they spent two months designing and constructing a gravity-fed water distribution system. They dug trenches and laid pipe to bring clean, reliable drinking water directly to 30 households, a school, and a community center. Prior to this project, the town's residents had to walk two miles roundtrip just to collect water from a well.

It is inspiring to see our students step outside the classroom and apply their knowledge in ways that meaningfully and visibly impact communities. Their dedication to helping others thrive represents the very best of Voiland College.

Our WSU College of Veterinary Medicine students and staff are truly a lifeline for animals and people across our region.

The horses were seized on June 5 from a Latah County property due to a neglect case. After the WSU team visited, all but a handful were adopted to new homes.

The new Schweitzer Engineering Hall is going to be a hub of activity and research for WSU — and it was made possible in part by funding from the Washington State Legislature and advocacy from YOU!
