We gathered to celebrate the mentors of TiE Young Entrepreneurs (TYE) Seattle and pay tribute to Soma Somasegar — whose life embodied everything mentorship stands for.

Soma was a technology leader, investor, and community builder. But what people remembered most wasn’t his title or his résumé.

It was how he saw people.

He listened more than he talked. He simplified complexity. He showed up — genuinely. He believed in founders before they believed in themselves.

That’s exactly what our TYE team do every single day. Thanks to Kishor Panpaliya, Yashovardhan Wagh, Aalok 🦄 Doshi and Aravind Bala.

At TYE Seattle, mentorship means seeing potential early.

Vijay Vashee said it simply, and it stayed with everyone in the room:

“If we take care of our children, they will take care of our future.”

Thank you to Vijay Vashee, Gowri Shankar, Aravind Bala, Ezhilarasan (Ez) Natarajan, , Sharmilli Ghosh, and Haresh Ved for sharing their reflections and thoughts of Soma.

And a heartfelt thank you to Silicon Valley Bank, a division of First Citizens Bank, for partnering with TiE Seattle in honoring Soma’s legacy — and for believing in the power of community, mentorship, and paying it forward.

The greatest tribute to Soma is not only remembrance.

It is action.
To mentor generously.
To lead with humility.
To listen more.
To see people.
To invest in our children and our future.

And maybe ask ourselves — as Soma often did:

Are we having fun?

Think less panel discussion, more real conversation.

The Importance of Purpose in the Age of AI — A Powerful Evening of Reflection & Insight

This session on May 5th wasn’t just another conversation about AI, it was a deeper exploration of what truly drives us as humans in a rapidly evolving world.

A few key takeaways that stayed with me:

Purpose is no longer optional — it’s essential.

As AI transforms how we work, create, and solve problems, our why becomes the anchor that keeps us grounded and relevant.

Leaning into strengths over weaknesses

One powerful insight was how focusing on strengths isn’t just motivational — it actually changes how our brain functions. When we operate from our strengths, we unlock better performance, creativity, and fulfillment.

AI can amplify, but not replace purpose

Technology can enhance productivity, but it cannot define meaning. That still comes from us — our values, experiences, and intent.

Purpose fuels resilience and direction
In times of uncertainty and change, those with a clear sense of purpose adapt faster and lead with more clarity.

The discussion was thoughtful, honest, and incredibly relevant for where we are today, at the intersection of human potential and technological acceleration.

Grateful to everyone who joined and contributed to such a meaningful conversation. Big shoutout to Akhtar Badshah, Tara Prakriya and Sonu Aggarwal.

Conversations like these remind us that while the tools evolve, our purpose is what defines the impact we create.
