Homestead CLT Stability, equity and opportunity through homeownership. https://linktr.ee/homesteadclt

Homestead Community Land Trust creates stability, equity and opportunity through permanently affordable homeownership. Partnering with modest income households (who earned less than 80% area median income), we have created the largest trust of permanently affordable homes in Washington State. Every home we build gives affordability a permanent address in its neighborhood and prevents further displacement of modest income people as neighborhoods revitalize. We welcome the opportunity to serve community partners and organizations in King County whose goals may be best served by the benefits of our community land trust.

Congratulations to Olympic Housing Trust on the grand opening of Dundee Hill Townhomes in Port Townsend—its first new construction project and a wonderful milestone for permanently affordable homeownership! Homestead’s Brel Hutton Okpalaeke joined the grand opening celebration and shares these photos.

This accomplishment reflects years of dedication by OHT’s staff, Board, and former board members, who have worked tirelessly to grow the organization and bring this vision to life. Special congratulations to Executive Director Kathy Morgan for her leadership and perseverance!

Dundee Hill’s five sustainably designed homes combine permanently affordable homeownership with a community garden and preserved native plant buffers. Built on generously donated land, the project will help households put down roots while strengthening local food security.

From all of us at Homestead, congratulations to everyone who helped make Dundee Hill possible. You’ve created something worth celebrating—and built a foundation for much more to come.

Expanding homeownership and helping families remain in their communities takes all of us. No one organization can do it alone.

It’s a joy to recognize our colleagues Cherryl Jackson-Williams, Caleb Jackson, and Cornelius Johnson as Homestead’s 2026 Legacy Award honorees. Their leadership is creating new opportunities and protecting the homes and wealth families have built over generations. We’re grateful to work alongside them.

What an evening! A Conversation With Questlove brought our community together at Town Hall Seattle to celebrate creativity, connection and the possibilities we create together.

Thank you to Questlove for sharing his perspective and stories, to our Conversation Host Jenna Hanchard for guiding such an engaging conversation, and to Reception Host Kiesha B Free for bringing warmth and energy to the celebration. Thank you to Eric Pettigrew for calling on our community to support Homestead’s work.

We are deeply grateful to our sponsors: Washington Trust Bank, our Presenting Sponsor; Amazon.com , our Reception Sponsor; and Banner Bank, EDGE, Salal Credit Union, Columbia Bank , HCMP, Heritage Bank , Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) , Vitus, CoHo Windermere, Civic Commons, First Federal, SMR Architects, Urban Pacific Real Estate, Washington Homeownership Resource Center and Dare2B.

Thank you also to our community partner KNKX.

To our guests, donors, board members, staff and volunteers: you made this evening possible. One guest described it as “the evening people didn’t know they needed.” That sentiment has stayed with us.

The celebration continues through the work it supports: creating permanently affordable homeownership so more people can put down roots, build financial security and remain in the communities they love.

We need our whole community to help make that future possible. Please give, get involved and help us open more doors to homeownership.

Today is the 21st day of September—the date made unforgettable by Earth, Wind & Fire’s best-known song.

It’s also the perfect day to share that our guest, Questlove, recently produced a documentary about Earth, Wind & Fire—exploring many of the same themes at the heart of our upcoming event, including the power of music, memory, community and joy as resistance.

Join us for A Conversation with Questlove, featuring Questlove in a live, wide-ranging conversation with journalist Jenna Hanchard about the stories that shape us—and how we find the imagination to create rooted places that sustain community.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: Skyway Coalition

Skyway Coalition advocates for community, by community. Rooted in Skyway’s rich legacy of resident leadership, the Coalition brings neighbors together to challenge historic disinvestment, strengthen local businesses, prevent displacement, and expand affordable homeownership—particularly for Black and brown families.

We’re grateful for their partnership, including our shared work to create permanently affordable homes and community green space in Skyway. We’re delighted that they’ll be tabling at A Conversation with Questlove on September 26 at Town Hall Seattle. Stop by and meet their team!
