🔥 Living together has always been political.

Who owns the land. Who gets to belong. Who cares for whom. Who gets to decide what home, family, and community look like.

At The Radical Roots of Living Together, historian Annelise Heinz and Sarah Wells, co-founder of Queen City Cooperative, trace the history of communities that rejected conventional models and built their own through collective living, shared ownership, alternative economies, and mutual care.

These ideas aren’t new. For generations, marginalized communities have created ways of living together that offered more freedom, resilience, and belonging. And at a moment when housing is increasingly unaffordable and so many people are hungry for connection, that history feels especially relevant.

Join us Friday night at Town Hall Collaborative to kick off the Denver Community-Rooted Housing Summit with big ideas, food, drinks, and plenty of time to connect.

🔥 Come for the radical history. Stay for the party.

🏡 Sponsor Spotlight: Schemata Workshop!

What do Skagit Commons , Daybreak Cohousing and Capitol Hill Urban Cohousing have in common? They’re all examples of communities designed by Grace Kim, Mike Mariano, and the team at Schemata Workshop, inc, where architecture is about more than buildings. It’s about creating spaces that help people connect.

We’re thrilled to have Schemata Workshop as a sponsor of the Denver Community-Rooted Housing Summit this October!

Grace and Mike bring deep experience designing cohousing and community-centered spaces, and we’re excited to have their expertise represented in Denver as we explore what it takes to create places where community can truly take root.

Thank you, Grace, Mike, and Schemata Workshop, for supporting this work and the growing community-rooted housing movement! 💛

Meet Studio Cohab, one of our Community Builder Sponsors! is an architecture firm built around cohousing and mission-driven design. They believe that inspired design is key to achieving ambitious goals. For them, every project is an opportunity to drive change by creating spaces that uplift individuals, strengthen connections, and shape a more equitable and vibrant future.

This approach led to Studio Cohab's design for Bozeman Cohousing winning the American Institute of Architect’s National Housing Award in Community-Engaged Design! Notably, the project is the first net-zero-energy cohousing design in the US, and we’re excited that cohousing is earning recognition on the national stage.
The firm’s principles are also helping shape , a forming cohousing community in Brighton, Colorado which Studio Cohab is working with! The project is targeting Net-Zero-Energy-level sustainability, as well as permanent affordability for at least one third of the homes, along with a strong commitment to inclusion and diversity. They are currently seeking new members!

👏 A big thank you to our Denver Summit sponsors!

The Community-Rooted Housing Summit is bringing together people who are designing, building, financing, organizing, and living new possibilities for housing and community. We couldn’t do it without the organizations and professionals who believe in this work and invest in making these conversations possible.

We’re so grateful to all of our sponsors for supporting a growing movement toward more connected, attainable, inclusive, and community-rooted ways of living.

Give them some love in the comments, and come meet many of them in Denver
