We have a new name and a renewed vision ✨

Cohousing Association of the United States (CohoUS) is now the National Cohousing Alliance.

Same organization. Expanded mission.

This evolution reflects the work we’re already doing, supporting not just cohousing, but a broader ecosystem of community-rooted housing that is more connected, attainable, and resilient.

You’ll see this come to life through our new website, updated programs, and growing network of partners and communities across the country.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and grateful to be building this future with you.

Cohousing has roots in Denmark and we’re proud to partner with and the USA-DK Alliance 🇺🇸🇩🇰

What began in Denmark in the 1960s as a community-centered way of living has grown into a global movement. Today, cohousing is helping people across the U.S. build more connected, sustainable neighborhoods, reduce isolation, and create a stronger sense of belonging.

This is the spirit of the USA-DK Alliance: shared values, shared ideas, and collaboration across cultures to strengthen communities.

For nearly 40 years, JA has been designing welcoming, community-focused living environments that bring people together. Their work reflects what cohousing is all about: thoughtful design that supports connection, interaction, and everyday life.
