We cannot talk about Black maternal and infant health without talking about accountability. 🛑 Period.

That's why we're highlighting the Irth App today. Navigating the healthcare system while Black can be daunting, but the Irth App turns our collective experiences into a shield. When you take just 10 minutes to leave a completely anonymous review of your prenatal, birthing, postpartum, or pediatric care, you are directly helping the next Black family find providers with a record of respectful, equitable care.

At the same time, you're building the accountability needed to push hospitals to do better for every family that comes after you! At BLKBRY, we are unapologetically and explicitly serving Black people and families. We protect us. We Got Us!

T***y Tuesday PSA: the baby isn't the only one who needs care. 🤎

New moms are often asked:
"Is the baby eating?"
"Is the baby sleeping?"
"Does the baby need anything?"

But somebody needs to ask "How are YOU doing?"

And don't just ask, look for a way to help.

Bring her a meal. Refill her water. Wash the bottles. Hold the baby while she showers. Sit with her while she feeds. Let her nap without making her feel guilty about it.

Sometimes supporting maternal mental health looks a lot less clinical and a lot more like showing up.

Tag the person who knows how to take care of the mama, too. 🤎

Did you know Black Breastfeeding Week was created out of a vital need to center our experiences? ✊🏾✨

For too long, the mainstream narrative around lactation excluded Black bodies, ignored systemic barriers, and overlooked our rich history of community nourishment.

BBFW was founded to change that. It's a dedicated time to spotlight the unique challenges we face, like disproportionate lack of access to resources and systemic bias in healthcare, while fiercely celebrating the joy, resilience, and beauty of Black families feeding their babies. At BLKBRY, we are a Black-owned and led reproductive justice and health equity organization unapologetically and explicitly serving Black people and families. This week is for us.

We had the honor of attending the book release for A Committee of One at The Dock Bookshop in Fort Worth. It was a powerful evening celebrating the legacy of Ms. Opal Lee and the people committed to carrying that work forward. ✨

Hearing from storyteller and KDFW-TV broadcast journalist Dionne Anglin, community activist and nonprofit founder Dione Sims, and Miss Juneteenth 2025 Bailey Howell was a powerful reminder that preserving our history takes all of us. 🤎

Legacy isn't just something we inherit. It's something we choose to protect, build, and pass on.

Thank you to everyone who created space for meaningful conversation, reflection, and community. These are the moments that remind us why storytelling matters. 📖

💡 The overall U.S. maternal mortality rate remained relatively unchanged between 2023 and 2024.
But one thing remained painfully consistent:

Black women continue to experience the highest risk of maternal death in America. 💯

The crisis isn't new.
The disparity isn't new.
The urgency isn't new.
Yet here we are.
