🦪💧 Be part of something special this summer. 🌊

CSHH’s Community Oyster Gardening Program is back for our FIFTH season — and we’re looking for volunteers to help restore and protect Hempstead Harbor, one oyster at a time.

Participants raise young oysters that naturally filter water, improve water quality, and support marine habitats — all while connecting with neighbors and spending time on the harbor. 🌊

📍 Meet every other week from July–September
🌱 Hands-on, family-friendly volunteer experience

✨🪸Horseshoe crab season is here! 🪸✨

Join us on the beach as these remarkable, prehistoric creatures begin their annual spawning along our shoreline 🌊. It’s a unique chance to learn about this keystone species and take part in meaningful, real-world science.

This program is thoughtfully designed by age group so everyone has an engaging, appropriate experience:

📅 May 16 (Grades K–6) – interactive, hands-on exploration
📅 May 30 (Grades 7–12) – deeper dive into data collection and coastal ecology⏰ 11 AM–12 PM📍 North Hempstead Beach Park (meet at the pavilion)

Please wear sturdy, beach-friendly shoes—we’ll be walking along the shoreline.
🧑‍🧒 A parent or guardian is required for all participants on 5/16.

Spend the morning outside, learn something new, and contribute to protecting our local marine environment.

🌎 Happy Earth Day from !

We are so lucky to call this harbor community home—and even luckier when we take care of it together.

Every bottle skipped, every reusable bag used, every lunch packed without single-use plastic adds up. Because what we don’t use doesn’t end up in our streets, our parks, or our harbor. And protecting this water—where kids learn, wildlife lives, and our community gathers—starts with the small choices we make every day.

Let’s keep doing the simple things that make a real difference.

📅 And while we’re thinking ahead—save the date for Summerfest on 6/15! A day to come together, celebrate our community, and enjoy the harbor we’re working so hard to protect.

We got lucky with the weather ☀️ and even luckier with the turnout for our Scudder’s Pond cleanup this past Saturday. THANK YOU to the many families who showed up and got to work to care for a spot that means a lot to our community 💙

It’s a simple idea, but it matters: what we keep out of the pond stays out of the harbor and away from wildlife 🌊

We’re keeping that momentum going into Earth Week 🌎 This Wednesday, we’re joining North Shore schools in a Plastic-Free Lunch Day—an easy way to cut down on waste in a single day 🥗♻️ Reusable containers, no single-use plastics, whatever you can do because small shifts add up 💙

🌎 Save the Date: Saturday, April 18 🌎

Join us for a family-friendly way to celebrate Earth Day while making a real impact on our local harbor!

This cleanup plays an important role in protecting the health of Hempstead Harbor. By keeping Scudder’s Pond free of plastic and debris, we help prevent trash from reaching the harbor—improving our beaches and protecting local wildlife.

Can’t make it this year but still want to support the effort?
